Years ago, my local Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon and invited members to make a short presentation about their businesses. The printing company where I worked tasked me with making our presentation. I suggested to my CEO that every other business would be presenting sales pitches and that we could stand out from the crowd if we used comedy. My boss (nervously) agreed so I wrote a funny monologue about printing being the most important thing in the universe.
It worked even better than I expected. The presenters who came after me kept mentioning that it was a, “tough act to follow.” They referenced my jokes during their own speeches. They literally used their time at the microphone to remind the audience about our business! This is what happens when you leverage the power of laughter.
It’s a noisy world. It’s not likely that anyone will hear what you have to say. But, if by some miracle you acquire an audience, you’ll want them to remember you.
Funny is unforgettable.
Never Wait for Inspiration

I’ve been on stage thousands of times, written hundreds of scripts, produced videos, composed songs, authored books, illustrated books, hosted podcasts, and created hours of comedy material for myself and others. I’ve frequently been described as “prolific.”
It’s not possible to be a prolific content creator unless you have a plan. You need a technique to keep your creative energies on track. I discovered a system for churning out comedy that doesn’t require weeping bitter tears of frustration or slamming foreheads against a wall hoping to get inspired. I’ve got a beach full of seashells. The hard part will be deciding which great idea to use!

My First Time
I was in 7th grade. The assignment was to read a biographical book and present a report in front of the class. I chose the biography of Harry Houdini.
This was an actual assignment. There were rules to follow. There was an objective. I couldn’t just tell jokes for 5 minutes. My report had to communicate something about the life of Houdini.
By the time I reached 7th grade, I had listened to a lot of kids give book reports. However, I didn’t (and still don’t) remember the reports themselves. I only remember being bored.
My 6th grade teacher was funny. He made me laugh whether he was teaching History or Geometry. So I tried to imagine how my funny teacher would present a report on Harry Houdini.
Giving that report was the first time I experienced the power of comedy. There was so much laughter in the room, the teacher from next door came over to investigate the commotion. Here’s the important part – I got an ‘A’ on the assignment.
