I heard a guy talking about the border problem say, “These are just regular folks who come to our country looking for a better life!” And of course, this is true. The reason people enter the country illegally is because they want to improve their circumstances. It’s the same reason people rob banks, steal cars, break into houses, and sell meth. Crime is an effective way to obtain things that would otherwise be unavailable to you.

Here’s the detail that you apparently haven’t noticed; crime improves the criminal’s life by making the victim’s life worse. Despite your childish belief that border jumpers aren’t hurting anyone, criminals ALWAYS create victims.

“John, OMG! YOU HATEFUL JERK!!! These poor people are hard workers who contribute to society!!!”

Let’s assume you’re correct (though you’re not). Let’s assume that 100% of the people living in the country illegally are working hard at jobs that citizens won’t do. That doesn’t erase their crimes. You would understand if you had any sympathy for the victims. Since you’re too self-centered to see the issue from another perspective, we’ll make this all about you.

Imagine that you’re sitting in your car waiting for a traffic light to turn green when I stroll up, open the door, throw you in the street, hop behind the wheel and drive away. Days later, the police pull me over as I’m delivering pizzas in your car. You ought to say, “He only boosted my car because he wanted a better life. Now he’s working hard delivering food! That’s a job I’m not willing to do. He can keep the car with my blessing.”

But you wouldn’t say that. Mostly because you’re angry and insulted by my lack of regard for your well being. It’s galling to think that my wrongdoing will not only go unpunished, but be rewarded! You might even say something like, “Hey! If he gets to keep my car, he’s going to steal more cars!” And you would be right.

Unless you’re an ally and advocate for ALL criminals, you should stop advocating for SOME criminals.

(1 John 3:4) Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
