According to a guy who made a video, there is a ‘System’ engineered to foster fear. The system makes me (and you) afraid of everything.
The System is why we scream at each other about what the system even is. Democrats insist Republicans are the System. Republicans insist Democrats are the System. The guy making the video insists that BOTH parties are the system but he definitely is not.
See? The system has everybody convinced that it doesn’t exist! That proves it’s real!
The upside is ‘the system’ eliminates the awful feeling that I need to change.
I suspected that when I lost my temper, told a lie, ignored someone in need, or nursed a grudge, the fault might lie somewhere in the vicinity of… me.
Thankfully the video cleared this up. It’s The System!
My unmanaged emotions are not personal failures. They are atmospheric conditions. Like humidity. Or pollen. Or cow farts.
I am a victim of the anxiety network.
“John, you jerk! It figures you’d defend the system!!! You religious people love to preach fear!!!!”
Not at all. I’m super excited about the solution that was proposed. We must dismantle The System.
Naturally this will require a coordinated effort, strategic messaging, leadership structures, enforcement mechanisms, education pathways, and probably a few committees.
In other words, we need a new system.
A better one!
One that finally fixes human behavior.
Because the problem with humanity has never been the human heart. We’re not sinful, we’re being filled with fear. If we can just replace the current network of influence with an improved network of influence, the lying, cheating, stealing, envy, rage, pride, and corruption will end.
I would suggest Christianity to replace the system of fear but I know the system has prepared you for this exact moment. You’ve been pre-loaded with contempt for religion as a control mechanism. The system keeps you paralyzed by fear of any alternate system. You’ve been taught that this fear is ‘enlightenment’ so any doubts about your beliefs are immediately dismissed as backward.
The Bible does not blame “the system” for ugly human behavior. It blames the human being. The human being then blames the system. Scripture offers the less fashionable explanation that the problem is not a structure we can topple but a nature we carry around with us. We are not outside the system trying to overthrow it. We built it. Jesus dismantled it when he walked out of the grave.
But don’t let me force my religion on you.
(Jeremiah 17:9) “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
