There is a particularly noisy group of people running around giving speeches, writing books, producing videos, and posting on social media who are blaming me for being divisive. According to these people, I am “causing divisions” when I say stuff like, “Men cannot be women.” Their accusation is fueled by a lot of emotion. They often yell. Sometimes they cry. They insist that my divisiveness is standing in the way of an inclusive, tolerant society.
People are divided. This has been true since God took a rib from Adam. The moment Eve was created, mankind was divided into two groups. Neither Adam nor Eve was responsible for the division. God divides people. People do not divide themselves.
The source of all divisiveness is the Creator of the Universe. The Bible tells us that God exists as a perfect, unified person. He lacks nothing. He needs nothing. He is complete. The universe is separate from God. It does not exist by itself. The universe is DIVIDED from its perfect, complete Creator.
A mere 6 verses into the Bible God starts intentionally creating division.
“Let there be an expanse between the waters to SEPARATE water from water.”
(Genesis 1:6)
After that, God makes a bunch of life forms. Each “kind” is distinct and separate. Then he makes people, divided into two genders.
Later in the book of Genesis, there’s an interesting story about a tower. It describes mankind working together to build a structure reaching to Heaven. God, in an act of blatant divisiveness, confuses people’s languages so they cannot complete the building project. Man’s effort to unify around an earthly cause, thwarted by man’s Creator.
A little later, in the Book of Matthew (Chapter 10, verse 34 in case you want to check for yourself) Jesus informs us that He is bringing divisiveness. He will set man against father and mother against daughter. The reason for this is the subject of a different post. The point I’m making right now is this:
“I AM NOT CAUSING DIVISIONS IN SOCIETY!”
I won’t take credit for God’s work.
God, not me, made male and female.
God, not me, made the rules of morality.
God, not me, allows wickedness to flourish.
God, not me, separates sheep from goats.
Accusations of “causing division” come from wicked people who are trying to take God’s place. They hope I’ll believe that my religious convictions “harm others.” They hope I’ll compromise the righteousness of the Gospel and pursue the impossible goal of world wide unity. They’re building a Tower of Babel. They’re furious when I won’t pick up a hammer.
The world has NEVER been united. However, the church achieves unity through Christ. Any effort to unify people outside of the church, will fail. Don’t let anyone pin the blame for that failure on you.

You are sick in the head. God has caused division between myself and my brother. Thats not a good thing because we’re not talking to each other now. If people cannot agree about God then there will always be wars. If thats His design, as in Babel, then He’s a hateful shit. Evil perhaps. Or perhaps He created Evil for the express purpose of sowing division. If thats the case, no wonder His world is in an utter mess.
Dear John,
I’ve tried repeatedly to respond to this. I want you to know that ultimately I agree with what you’ve written. I wish you and”the Peaches” and I could talk together via email (or frankly the phone) sometime. The last comment in this entry stole my breath away as it occurred to me that not only have I been blamed by my children for a failure to unify, but then I’ve been told that I’m not being blamed when I really am. It hurts. In truth, my family has walked away from God and they need me to come around to their way of thinking. I’m made to feel like the bad guy for not going along with the lies they are telling themselves and how they twist the truth.
Our story is MUCH too long and tiring to tell here. But please know that I support (literally) what you’re doing and I would ask that you remember those of us who are fighting for every laugh that you give us. We covet your humor, I periodically fear your truths (bc they hurt), and I’m glad you are a part of my walk with God and help me to stay focused on the truth.
