As a Christian, I believe God created the heavens and the Earth. I believe God is directly responsible for everything that exists in the Universe. I believe His power sustains every aspect of reality. I believe nothing happens apart from His perfect will.
…I also believe in evolution. And I believe, despite my clearly stated belief that God is Creator of All Things, that you’re going to be upset about that.
“John, you jerk! You believe in evolution because you’re trying to appease pagan scientists!!! You’re taking man’s word over God’s word!!!!!”
Have you ever noticed that God’s word is written in ‘man words?’ The Bible is some of God’s thoughts translated into the language of man. When you quote scripture, you’re not literally speaking God’s words. God’s language cannot be expressed with our finite vocabulary. The Bible tells us that:
(Romans 1:20) ”For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made…”
God ‘speaks’ the language of nature. He has given us the ability to understand His language (our word for that ability is, ‘science’). We do NOT have the ability to speak it. Only God speaks nature into existence.
It’s true that ‘evolution’ is man’s word. It’s also true that ‘creation’ is man’s word. Both of them fall short of explaining how God operates. Evolution simply means, ‘change.’ I see change happening everywhere I look. What difference does it make which word I use when I’m giving God the credit for everything?
“But…John! The pagans use evolution as a replacement for God’s creative work!!!”
Yes. Pagans are fools. I’m not a pagan. When I use the word ‘evolution’ I redeem it for the glory of The Lord. It’s just man’s word anyway, right?
As a Christian, I believe God created everything. I also believe that Bible is one of the ways God communicates with us. I’m certain that my limited vocabulary keeps me from grasping the details about the origins of the cosmos. I’m also certain that you and I are in the same boat.
