Slave owners need better social media representation. The pro-slavery crowd could really use a few Christian influencers running cover for their sinful lifestyle. It is unjust that the LGBTQ people get all the love and attention. Slave owners and sex traffickers are some of the most marginalized people in the world! Everybody detests them.
I don’t have a huge platform but let me take a whack at showing some Christian love and support for the slave traders.
“If your pastor tells you to reject your sex trafficking kid, reject your pastor and find a new church.”
Before you shout “Amen!” let me make a confession. My statement is manipulative and unfair. Any objection you raise will allow me to accuse you of hating your kid. I worded the phrase in such a way as to make it impossible for you to disagree. It’s a simple trick which I will teach you so that you’ll recognize it in the future.
Here’s the trick: Put the word ‘kid’ behind any sin you’re trying to justify.
This fuses the person with their sin. It turns bad behavior into an adjective. It makes ‘sex trafficking’ something that your child IS, rather than something he DOES. The word ‘reject’ is then applied to your whole kid.
A less manipulative way to communicate is to put the word ‘kid’ in front of a specific sin. Then, the kid becomes the owner of the sin which is the correct way to understand it. There is nothing controversial about the phrase, “My pastor said I should reject my kid’s sex trafficking.”
The message of the Gospel is that sin no longer grips God’s people. A pastor is right to tell parents to reject a child’s adultery, immorality, drunkenness, thievery, greed, swindling, idolatry…or queerness. It is NOT TRUE that sin is an unchangeable part of your kid’s character. Reject any teaching that says otherwise.
(1 Corinthians 6:9) Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
One Response
The difference between “My pastor said I should reject my sex trafficking kid” and “My pastor said I should reject my kid’s sex trafficking.” is not just a matter of phrasing. The difference is the subject of the rejection. Of course if you completely change the sentence it becomes less agreeable.
Also, “sex trafficking” is something you do. Being queer is just a term for a person who does not have traditional sexual preferences. You don’t have to do anything to be queer.
