Jesus didn’t ‘hang out with sinners.’
Tow truck drivers aren’t ‘hanging out’ with you when they tow your disabled vehicle.
A fireman doesn’t run into a burning building to ‘hang out’ with the family inside.
A lifeguard doesn’t jump into pounding surf to ‘hang out’ with a drowning person.
You don’t make an appointment with your dentist so the two of you can ‘hang out’ and fill some cavities.
Christ was not ‘pals’ with the afflicted, broken, wretched, selfish, unholy people surrounding Him. If you really want to be like Jesus, you must understand that rescuing sinners is not ‘hanging out’ with friends.
(Matthew 9:12) On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
