I’m not a prophet. Let me get that point out of the way first. I have no special abilities to see into the future. That being said, I predict this article will make some people very angry. I will be accused of judging. I will be accused of hating. I might even be called a racist. I’m confident in this prediction because I know many people don’t read well. Many people read a headline and don’t bother with the article itself. (Those people haven’t read any of this because they’re busy writing outraged comments about my hateful, judgmental, racism.)
I’m happy Kanye West converted to Christianity. It’s the most important decision he ever made. His decision will allow him to live with God for eternity and it gives me joy to think about that. I don’t know Kanye at all but we’ll have a lot of time to become friends when we graduate from life on Earth. It’s possible that in a few million years, his friendship might even help me develop an appreciate for hip-hop music (I do believe in miracles).
Understand, I’m not criticizing, doubting, diminishing, or mocking Kanye’s Christian faith.
But, I’m not exalting, or glorifying Kanye’s Christian faith over my own. The angels rejoicing in a celebrity conversion is exactly the same as for ” a nobody”. I’m going to be frank: you need to dial back your enthusiasm for Kanye’s Christianity because your euphoria makes you look silly. Kanye is not more special to God than any one of His other created souls. And Kanye’s conversion doesn’t validate Christianity. The validation happened a couple thousand years ago with the resurrection.
If you’re thinking the Kingdom is going to experience a big boost because a super-cool artist is dropping Jesus into music tracks, prepare to be disappointed. Kanye is not the first superstar to meet Christ. They come and go, just like non-superstars. If you converted to Christianity because you’re a fan of Kanye West, let me offer you another (non-prophetic) prediction: Kanye is going to fall. Be prepared!
Everybody falls. At some point in the future, West is going to do something that contradicts his Christian faith. He’s going to sin. When that happens, the media will gleefully lay out the gory details of his sin so everyone will know Kanye is a fraud. Everyone will know that Christianity is a hoax. Christians do bad things just like everyone else! And then you’ll quit the faith and tell everyone that following Jesus didn’t work for you.
News Flash: You weren’t following Jesus. You were following Kanye.
The whole reason for becoming a Christian is that living a life of perfect holiness is impossible. No Christian can live by the standards of Christianity. Only one person has ever lived as a Christian. Jesus did what you, me, and Kanye can’t do. He lived perfectly. Then, He let us take credit for His perfection. It an unbelievably good deal that doesn’t require a celebrity endorsement.
Kanye West is not good news for Christianity. Christianity is good news for Kanye West. Please keep things in perspective when you’re celebrating our new brother’s conversion.

first time on your website and while I agree with most of your viewpoints, I believe your satirical take on KW’s conversion, while being absolutely correct, is not only condescending, but would turn off many of those future “conversions.” Reread your rhetoric….you sound like the stereotypical christian. luckily, those individuals will likely never see your website.
This is the first time I’ve heard from you and I believe your unsubstantiated accusation of condescension is not only self-righteous, but diminishes make it difficult for me to give future comments much weight. Reread your rhetoric. You sound like a stereotypical troll. Luckily, you are water and I am a duck’s back.
Indeed. These were the same thoughts that I had whilst the twitterverse was going ga-ga. Thanks for voicing them better than I could.
Uhm…I hope this is okay to point out, but there seems a grammatical error up there. You wrote, ” It an unbelievably good deal that doesn’t require a celebrity endorsement.”
I think you meant “It’s.”
It doesn’t really take away from the overall impact of the post, but it bugged me, and I thought you might appreciate it if it were pointed out.
“Grammar police; To correct and serve.” ;-).
And I just noticed that my own quotation marks are backwards thanks to a spacing error. So, glass houses and all…LOL.
Always happy for the help. Thanks for the comment.
