Good morning everyone. Welcome to “Typical Evangelical Church,” we’re both glad and somewhat surprised that you visited us today!
As a pastor, I am saddened to see our country so divided over politics. I wish we would all just get along and agree about everything! That would be great! We all agree that agreement is great. Amen?
And since I don’t want to contribute to the divisiveness, I’m going to avoid controversy and just say: “Jesus is Lord.” That’s something that absolutely everybody agrees about. Jesus is never a topic of debate or disagreement.
In the spirit of meekness, I refuse to say anything about how the lordship of Jesus should impact your politics. My job is simply to remind you that God is on His throne no matter who wins the next election. I firmly believe the right platform acknowledges that BOTH the other platforms are imperfect. This kind of ‘neutrality’ is a sweet aroma to God’s nostrils.
Of course, to fulfill my duty as a citizen, I will be voting for one of the candidates! So, I have prayerfully and thoughtfully picked a side. I’m just not going to tell you which side I’ve chosen. It would be wrong for me to influence you. No pastor should ever tell you what to think!
I’ll close by asking you to join me in prayer for ALL our political leaders, especially the ones who put Christians in jail for praying. Whether they are righteous or wicked, pray that God blesses lawmakers equally. Or don’t. It’s your decision. And remember that whatever you decide to do, it doesn’t matter.
(Revelation 3:15) I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
