Imagine handing a sword to a soldier and saying, “This sword should never, ever, ever, ever, EVER be used as a weapon.”
That’s what progressive Christians do when they tell you not to use the Bible for its intended purpose.
The instructions to never use the Bible as a weapon don’t come from the Bible. It is a rule made-up by people who don’t like the wounds inflicted by the Truth. It is foolish counsel that sends you into battle unarmed.
(Ephesians 6:16) In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

When I was kid we had sessions where we would see who could look up Bible verses the fastest, as a way to develop familiarity with the sequence of the books withing the Bible. We called these sessions sword drills.
The Bible is the most effective weapon I own.
