Maybe your pastor says stuff like this. If he/she/they/them/zee/zir/whatever does, you have my permission to send them this note with my name attached. (You don’t have to attach my name if you’re okay being told that you’re what’s wrong with church.)
Dear Clergy-Identifying-Person,
We, the church, are being told (by YOU) that following Jesus means surrendering our minds to progressive politics. We’re told (by YOU) that Jesus loves everybody (except for people like us). We’re called bigots for believing that marriage requires a male and female. We’re called hateful for believing that gender is biologically determined (by God Himself). We’re told (by YOU) to keep our religion out of education. We’re told (by YOU) to keep quiet about abortion. We’re told (by YOU) that the United States is not a Christian nation so our beliefs cannot be considered when making public policy. AND AND AND…
AND…we’re simultaneously being accused (by YOU) of ‘losing a generation who wants to follow Jesus.’
That is what I call, ‘persecution.’
For the record, the people who don’t recognize Jesus as their master are not allowed to challenge me to ‘act like Jesus.’ The people who reject the words of Jesus aren’t allowed to hold me accountable for ‘not sounding like Jesus.’ It is absurd to suggest that my faith needs the approval of those who don’t share it (including YOU). Blind people can’t tell if I’m walking in the light.
Also for the record, the church is not ‘losing a generation who wants to follow Jesus.’ The generation who wants to follow their hearts, indulge their flesh, mock their Creator, and worship themselves are leaving the church (with much pomp and fanfare). They refuse to pick up a cross. They refuse to repent of their wickedness. The followers of the real Jesus are not to blame for the prideful rebellion of this corrupt generation.
(Acts 2:40) With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

Thank you! I needed this reminder that
“It is absurd to suggest that my faith needs the approval of those who don’t share it (including YOU).”
I continually grow a little each day from this blog. Thank you.
