lightning strikes

Here’s an example of why we should be careful about our literal interpretations of biblical words.

God’s Word gives us the eyewitness account of history. He never lies (Titus 1:2) so we can trust his Word to give us the true history of earth, the universe, and the gospel.

Mark 1:21 tells us, “And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath [Jesus] entered the synagogue and was teaching.” According to scripture, Jesus traveled great distances instantly! Some Christians teach that Jesus walked wherever he went. The only reason for doing this is to appease Humanistic scientists who reject God’s word.

To ensure there is no misunderstanding, Mark 1:29 says, “And immediately [Jesus] left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.” Jesus was fully God and demonstrated his power over physics by teleporting in the blink of an eye from the synagogue to Simon’s house.

Though it would have been easy to do, not one of the English translations mentions common 1st century travel methods. There were other words to describe the process of moving from one place to another but the Bible deliberately uses the word, ‘immediately.’ If the Bible meant to say, ‘some time later after Jesus walked across town,’ why doesn’t it say that? God is not a God of confusion!

Science says teleportation is impossible. But we know nothing is too hard for The Lord! True people of faith trust their interpretation of scripture over science, reason, rationality, and logic.

Mark 1:21 – 29 is a foundational teaching. If you deny the truthfulness of these passages, you might as well throw out the whole Bible. Only a person who is ashamed of the gospel would disagree with me. Don’t be ashamed! Don’t question my conclusions!

(1 Corinthians 14:31) “For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.”
