Hey, Church. Sesame Street said something that reminded me of you.

“On our street, we accept all, we love all, and we respect all.”

That sounds like you, doesn’t it? I’ve seen your proclamation of universal love and acceptance on signs and coffee mugs and T-shirts and reusable window stickers. You’ve made it clear that you’re a group where everybody belongs. It’s a beautiful sentiment. It’s also a lie.

“John, you jerk!! Jesus loved and accepted everybody!!! We’re supposed to be like Jesus!!!!”

Jesus never made the absurd claim that He accepts and respects all people. He knew the world is full of sinful, selfish humans who stand opposed to all that is good and right. Jesus couldn’t accept sin. That’s why you’ve not seen the quote, “We accept all, we love all, and we respect all,” anywhere in the Bible.

People who claim to accept and respect everyone are fools. They neither accept nor respect anyone who calls them fools and remain stubbornly oblivious to their self-refutation. I said, “Apparently the love, acceptance and respect of all people doesn’t include anyone who thinks this concept is absurd.” I got a bunch of replies which accidentally affirmed my point:

“Why would we enter the paradox of being tolerant of the intolerant?”

“We don’t have to tolerate intolerance.”

“We shouldn’t respect willful ignorance and hatred.”

“It isn’t hateful to point out and reject hateful behavior.”

…and on and on an on…and on.,

Sesame Street’s statement is an ignorant, self-serving bit of Humanistic hogwash. The people who posted it demonstrated that it can’t be lived out. No group exists on Earth or in Heaven where everyone is accepted and respected.

Stop using Sesame Street theology, Church.

(Matthew 7:21) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
