Sometimes I try to affirm pagans when they accidentally say something true. When I see a quote proclaiming, “The problem with the world is that intelligent people are full of doubts and the stupid ones are full of confidence,” I can whole heartedly agree. To show solidarity, I posted a scripture to express a similar sentiment:
(Proverbs 12:15) “The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice.”
One of the distinguishing marks of pagans is their intolerance of any truth that can be directly attributed to ‘religion.’ Wisdom is acceptable to pagans only if they remain ignorant of its source. When a sinner sees a scripture reference, they must object:
Sinner: “There are many valuable tidbits in that book, good words to live by. There’s also a lot of shit that belongs on the trash heap of history…As a former believer my anecdotal experience is that most come to church on Sunday, listen to the pastor interpret some cherry picked verses for them and then go home and don’t think about it much beyond that.”
This chap assumes I am interested in the thoughts of a ‘former believer.’ He is clearly one of those people who showed up on Sunday, listened to cherry picked verses and didn’t think much beyond that. What was it that the original quote called people so full of confidence?
I’ve posted the sinner’s final comment to me (before he deleted the entire conversation) so you Christians can see how differently the Bible affects sinners vs. we saints. Would you agree the sinners are nothing like us?
