This is from a guy (whom I will call, ‘Mike’ because that’s his name) who claims to be a not only a Christian, but a ‘Spiritual Director’ as well:

“In some ways, I’m glad Christians are being held at arm’s length by the world. It’s good to hear the critiques and to be asked to look in the mirror. We do have some explaining to do. Our witness is tarnished and our allegiances are suspect. Our tribe needs to be humbled and the consequences of our sins needs to be reckoned with. In many respects we are not the ‘hope for the world’ that we bragged about for so long.”

Mike is glad that Christians are being critiqued by the world. He thinks we who are redeemed by the blood of Christ should explain ourselves to the workers of chaos. He thinks our witness is tarnished and the folks who lack all discernment are getting suspicious of our allegiances. He thinks lawless pagans should judge us. Mike thinks we need to reckon with the sins that Jesus bore on the cross. And as if all of that weren’t enough heresy for a single paragraph, Mike also believes the ‘hope for the world’ we bragged about comes from ourselves.

Perhaps you go to a church where Mike is allowed to speak, teach, or otherwise spread this abominable theology. Maybe you are reminded by your ‘Spiritual Director’ that the world doesn’t think very highly of Christians so we need to do better. You’ve been taught that your sin is keeping people from knowing Jesus. If Mike sounds like your pastor, quit going to that church.

Satan won a great victory when he convinced Mike that Christians need to reckon with sin. That means Jesus accomplished nothing. If there is no redemption in Jesus, there is no reason to become a Christian. Instead of humbling themselves before God, pagans are encouraged to critique the lives of God’s people. Mike, the ‘Spiritual Director,’ is telling blind people to draw us a map.

(1 Corinthians 6:1) If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
