Honey Bear Hollow is a campground near my house that until recently proclaimed itself a ‘family friendly’ facility. The campground is under new ownership who don’t seem to understand how to use the word, ‘friendly.’ https://www.wishtv.com/news/i-team-8/new-owners-to-rebrand-campground-as-lgbtq-friendly-with-clothing-optional-area/
A newspaper article written about the campground declared, “…it is the only LGBTQ+-friendly campground in the state north of Indianapolis.” Um…I know that every public campground in America is open to campers regardless of ethnicity, religion, political views, and sexual orientation. So, I guess the word ‘friendly’ should be understood as ‘focusing on a specific category of camper.’ They also used the phrase, “adult-only” which further narrows the demographics. (That’s fine. The owners can cater to anyone they want. It’s their business.)
But then…that same article said this: “Despite the campground being marketed as a place for the LGBTQ+ community, all are welcome.” Sorry, that’s not how it works. The label, ‘Family friendly’ includes all varieties of people while ‘adult-only’ does not. (That’s fine. The owners can exclude whomever they want. It’s their business.)
The article also revealed: “…the pool will be clothing optional…Nudity in other parts of the campground will not be allowed. [The owners] say they will have strict no-tolerance policies for visitors who are unruly or who make other visitors uncomfortable.”
I predict that this campground will fail; NOT because of their friendliness toward any particular group but because their business model is chaotic. They wrongly believe the clientele attracted by a clothing-optional pool are capable of behaving in a manner other than unruly. The ‘adults-only’ crowd is not worried about making other visitors uncomfortable.
That’s fine. The owners can pander to lawlessness as much as they want. I’ll take my family someplace friendlier.
