“There is a Christian concept that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then after that, prioritize the rest of the world.”
If you don’t understand why this statement is completely outrageous and goes against the teachings of Jesus, I’ll clue you in. JD Vance said it.
Had this statement been uttered by Mariann Edgar Budde during her inauguration lecture, progressive Christians would regard it as the most profound theological statement of all time. In progressive Christianity, WHAT is said doesn’t matter. All that matters is WHO says it.
Progressives despise JD Vance because of his close affiliation with Donald Trump who they believe was the serpent in the garden of Eden. Believing that everyone loosely associated with Trump is a demon makes progressive theology quick and easy. Everything Bishop Budde says is correct. Everything JD Vance says is wrong.
Progressive Christianity protects people from the often painful results of common sense. The devout progressive reminds you to love your neighbor but warns against putting your family first. They are blissfully shielded from the realization that family members qualify as neighbors. Progressives are not bothered by inconsistency or hypocrisy.
Show me a guy who doesn’t love his family first and I’ll show you a guy who only loves himself. Show me a gal who doesn’t prioritize her husband and kids, I’ll show you an empty heart. Tell me I’m wrong about this and I’ll show you Progressive Christian.
(1 Timothy 5:8) If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
