A Christian has many responses when atheists (God-haters) accuse God of being evil. Here are a couple…
Response 1: “Oh my goodness! It breaks my heart when you say that! I’ll pray for you!” — This response is purely emotional. Atheism is purely emotional too. It’s best not to fight emotion with more emotion.
Response 2: “That’s probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Wait…let me think…yes! It’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard.” — The atheist will respond emotionally (because that’s the only response atheism affords) and you can decide whether or not to continue conversing with someone who is throwing a tantrum.
If you decide to grace the heathen with a few moments of your time because you feel God urging you to speak truth to this wretched creature, you can say something like:
“God knows everything. Whenever a ‘catastrophe’ (as you call it) happens, God is fully aware of every tiny variable connected to that disaster. He knows how every bit of suffering throughout history relates to the movement of every molecule in the Universe since the beginning of time. He knows everything that will happen in the future. He knows the thoughts of every person in the world.
You, on the other hand, don’t know what’s happening in your own bowels right this second. Someone with such a limited understanding of reality isn’t qualified to judge the actions of an omniscient being.
I’ll caution you against sputtering about your ‘lack of belief’ in God. Your beliefs aren’t relevant. You don’t understand the Cosmos well enough to declare anything ‘good’ or ‘evil.’ You don’t know what counts as a ‘catastrophe.’ That’s true whether you believe in God or not.
So, since God knows everything and you know almost nothing; the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard is your judgment of God.”
(Psalm 7:11) God is a righteous judge,
a God who expresses his wrath every day.
If he does not relent,
he will sharpen his sword;
he will bend and string his bow
