If you don’t care what other people think about you, stop reading right now.
When you’re not worried about the opinions of anyone else, you believe you’re right about everything. You think you’re perfect. I won’t bother telling you that you’re wrong since you quit reading after the first sentence.
I understand how annoying it is to hear other people’s points of view. I’m constantly being judged for what I say. What’s worse, I get judged for what people THINK I said. I’m a target on the firing range at the “Emotional Archery Club.” It is a testimony to the strength of my resolve that I don’t post memes that say, “Life is too short to worry about what others say or think about you.”
Plus, it’s stupid to tell the public that I don’t care what the public thinks. If I TRULY don’t care, I won’t say anything. The unavoidable truth is that telling someone I don’t care about their opinion is an attempt to change their opinion. I’m trying to make them feel small and unimportant. There aren’t many statements meaner than, “You don’t matter.”
Betcha didn’t think you were being cruel, didja? You thought you were being bold. You thought I’d respect your confidence. Maybe I’d even applaud your independent spirit. Nope! Show me a person who doesn’t care what others think and I’ll show you an insufferable narcissist.
It is true that some people are idiots. You shouldn’t worry about what idiots think. It is also true that EVERYONE is not an idiot. Some people are just as clever as you. And some people are even SMARTER than you. When you tell smart people to take a hike, you become the idiot.
Life is too short to be an idiot. Instead of “giving them something to talk about,” you should shut-up and listen to what they say. Perhaps, you’ll learn something that will change your life for the better. But if you’re really not interested in what I think, at least stop telling me what you think.
“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”
