The Privilege Race and Telling People They’re Not Okay

EPISODE – Several people have asked us to comment on this video and we aim to please!

Luke joins the Peaches and me on this episode!  As usual, he doesn’t talk much because he speaks quality rather than quantity. (Different from me.)
Collin has spent the day playing Star Wars and the Peaches thinks that’s ruined him for the day.
Privilege is certainly a thing that exists. It’s got nothing to do with skin color. It has much to do with culture and family values. With the proper perspective, privilege is a great thing.
We talk about our friend Nikki behind her back because she’s hilarious, not because she’s black.
Conversation shifts to scolding people to Jesus. We’re all for it!
Mandy tells about the time taught Cami about grace. It’s my favorite Cami related story. It always makes me cry (in a manly way).
Judges and forgiveness and the woman caught in adultery. So many sermons preached about this…so many bad sermons. When we think we love people more than God, there’s a huge problem.
References to various conversations here and here and here
Atheists and Christians are preaching the same doctrine!  This is a problem too.
The Tower of Siloam is in Luke 13.  Jesus talked differently to those folks than to the adulteress. Nobody preaches this passage…
My burning building analogy is spot on!  SPOT ON!  I really should write a book.
The last word goes to Luke and I can’t tell for sure if he’s making fun of me or being complimentary.

  1. Very thought provoking podcast which I believe I will have to listen again to better digest what was being said but let’s not let that keep me from commenting first. The idea that we easily accept Jesus as our savior but have a hard time making him Lord is one that I have thought for long time especially as I see it played out in my life the daily struggle to take my self off the throne and put him on causes a great deal of difficulty in my life. I couldn’t help but think of Rob Bell with this topic as one who seem to start well but then preached more Oprah than Gospel. A side note the story of the woman at the well I am not so sure the leaders were being devout as they were testing him so they could accuse him and with that where was the man if was in the act he should be there also. So their motives weren’t so much in keeping the law as looking for a reason to turn the stones on Jesus. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. So I agree how do they know they are condemned unless it’s preached.

    1. Thanks for listening (and interacting), Jeff!
I agree, the Pharisees were trying to trap Jesus. But…did they know he was the Messiah at that point? Aren’t we supposed to test the spirit of teachers/prophets, to make sure they’re from God?

      I honestly don’t know…

      1. Well at least Nicodemus did and his answer to John the Baptist about the messiah I wonder if they also recognized but did not want their world upset.

    2. I’ve heard from several people who are suspicious of the motives the leaders had for bringing the adulteress to Jesus. It is a fair point. Those guys had a pattern of behavior that included setting traps for Christ. I think it’s important to notice that Jesus didn’t actually accuse them of any wrongdoing either. He didn’t accuse ANYONE. This is where many articles fall off the rails. They shift the blame from the adulteress to the leaders. That’s not what Jesus did.

      1. To which theory if any do you subscribe to about what he writing in the ground? Would that have any bearing on why there were no accusations in the verses?

        1. I have no idea what he wrote on the ground. I’ve heard several theories. My gut tells me the writing was of little consequence. If it was important, we’d probably have been told what it was!
