Never let it be said that irrational devotion to my home State has hindered my ability to recognize idiocy in Indiana. I love you Hoosiers but I can’t let this slide without commentary.
Jasper, Indiana, in Dubois (pronounced ‘do boys’) County has canceled a family friendly drag show after the event received some negative attention online. Whoever thought it was a good idea to advertise a drag show as ‘family friendly’ is either a first time visitor to planet Earth or confident that residents of Dubois County think pornography qualifies as appropriate for children. Or perhaps (and more likely) they are deceitful and wicked.
The Dubois County Pride committee issued this statement, “We regretfully announce that due to safety and security concerns, the family-friendly drag performance planned for Pride in the Park has been cancelled.”
While the drag show itself was canceled, the larger event (Pride in the Park) is still being held. This is like canceling the cross burning ceremony but going ahead with the Ku Klux Klan rally. Exactly what ‘safety and security concerns’ exist for the drag show but don’t apply to the whole event? Chalk it up to my boundless skepticism, but I don’t believe anyone who supports a public pride event is going to think a drag show is going too far.
Dubois Pride Committee: “Hey! We’re going to celebrate homosexuality in the public park!”
Citizen: “Wonderful! Sexual depravity doesn’t get enough attention in this State.”
DPC: “We’ll have balloons, games, food, sex toys, illicit signs, obscene photographs and other family friendly things.”
Citizen: “Sounds great! I’ll bring my grandkids.”
DPC: “We’re also going to have a drag show!”
Citizen: “What?!!! That’s not appropriate!”
DPC: “Woah! You are causing very serious safety and security concerns.”
Simply put: I don’t believe the show was canceled for safety and security reasons. The show was canceled so the Dubois County Pride committee can pretend to be suffering persecution. The LGBTQ+ group wants me to believe they are victims of homophobic oppression. The drag show was canceled to paint opponents of gay pride as dangerous. You see, if the ‘safety concerns’ were real, the ENTIRE EVENT would be canceled and the LGBTQ+ crowd would cower under their beds behind locked doors.
To the Dubois Pride Committee: Labeling your salacious party as, ‘family friendly’ was a terrible idea. There will be consequences for trying to trick dumb people into participating in your celebration of sin. I am praying there aren’t many dumb people in Jasper.

I’m just thinking how awful I would feel if my life, my identity, my very heart and soul were marked up as the “+” sign in LGBTQ+.
