This story started making the rounds yesterday and I don’t need to say much about it. An off-duty police officer (who happens to be white) shot and killed a man (who happens to be black) because she thought he was an intruder in her apartment. It’s a horrifically sad story. Lives have been devastated almost beyond redemption.
Almost…
The strength of your religion is only demonstrated in suffering. Blogging religious philosophy is easy. Shouting down opposing views is easy. Sitting in church is easy. Skipping church is easy. Griping about hypocrisy is easy. Self-righteousness is easy. Talk is cheap.
What happens to your religion when you come face to face with genuine, soul-crushing, torturous pain? Religion that cannot speak to despair, is worthless.
It is during violent, horrendous storms that Christianity speaks most clearly. When the forces of hell render all other religions mute, Christians step up to the microphone. The video above is a testimony to the ability of Christ to quite literally change lives. People infused with the Gospel are powerful creatures indeed. Truly believing that we are all sinners saved by grace turns ordinary mortals into supernatural heroes. Forgiveness is a miracle that has no explanation apart from Christian faith.

“Forgiveness is a miracle that has no explanation apart from Christian faith.”
I don’t think so, forgiveness is quite common among humans, even atheists, period.
It was clearly an accident and it has created a life sentence for all. You would have to be very spiteful to hold a grudge for the rest of your life.
Atheists have personally assured me that sin is not real. That means, there’s nothing to forgive.
Forgiveness, apart from Christian faith is incoherent.
I couldn’t see the clip. It says “an error has occurred.”

How many of us watched this and wondered if, under the same circumstances, our faith would have risen to the forefront, as this young man’s did? Rachel Denhollander’s victim impact statement to Larry Nasser, though much longer, is an equally compelling example.
Wow! That’s one of the most powerful video clips I’ve ever seen. You’re right, that’s what following Jesus actually looks like. Love never fails.
It could be my pathetic internet but the video wasn’t appearing until I accessed the post through the comments button.
The video is a must see. I had HEARD from a news source that this scene happened. BUT it was only when I SAW this scene that the IMPACT happened and I was moved to tears. Thank you, JB, for this reminder of the power of God.
