black smoke coming from fire

“People going from “love your neighbor as yourself” to “boycott rainbow t-shirts,” is the greatest case of mission drift in the history of the planet.” – John Pavlovitz

Actually, JP, a greater example of mission drift is using “love your neighbor as yourself” to vilify your neighbors for following their consciences. It is not love that motivates me to shame others for doing what they think is right.

It is not an over exaggeration to say the Bible occasionally suggests that God’s people should not fraternize with evil. I can make a case for boycotting Target even though there are no verses that read, “Thou shalt not purchase pride merchandise.”

(Ephesians 5:11) Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

(2 Timothy 3:2) People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

(Psalm 101:4) Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

There will come has come a time when people won’t put with sound doctrine. The people who wanted you to leave them alone to live their lives as they saw fit are now demanding that your resources be used to affirm their lifestyle. Refusing to buy their T-shirt is tantamount to hate. Ignoring them is turning a blind eye to their suffering, right JP?

Buckle up, Christians. The ‘Love Is Love Crowd’ spends every single day of it hating us. They tell us we started it and in their version of Christianity, God doesn’t mind them retaliating for the sake of righteousness. That perfectly aligns with the mission of building a tolerant, inclusive society. Right, JP?
