This is Emmi Jane after she woke up from her nap.

Emmi isn’t happy.

There is no joy in her life.

She just rolled out of bed feeling sad.

What should we do to help her feel better?

Maybe she needs some medicine.

We could get her a prescription for anti-depressants.

That’s a good start.

Then we could ask her to list the toxic people in her life.

Give us the names of the people who hurt her so we can shame them.

Look at that little face!

She deserves justice.

If she was married, we could tell her husband to step up.

Since she’s single, we could send Emmi for a brain scan.

Looking at a colorful picture of the inside of her skull can’t make things worse.

A team of specialists can show us which part of her brain is active when she’s sad.

We could start a GoFund.Me account.

Money can’t buy happiness but let’s send money anyway.

We could call Child Protective Services and have Emmi snatched from her parents.

And of course, we could impeach Trump.

Which solution makes the most sense?

Which one do you use when YOU feel depressed?

In Emmi’s situation, the solution was…

…wait a few minutes.

After a few minutes of pouting, she suddenly felt better.

As if her feelings are unpredictable things that aren’t trustworthy.

As if feelings sometimes happen without a reason.

Glad we didn’t do a lobotomy!

She seems to be just fine now.

  1. Ha! That kid is adorable. There’s really no such thing as a “bad nap.” It’s the waking up part that can go all awry. You have to learn how to stick the landing when you get up from nap. That takes napping practice.

One problem with depression and a few other disorders, the feelings don’t just go away, if you even have any feelings at all. You can have no feelings at all. Not quite sure what’s missing here, but there is a piece missing when it comes to understanding things like depression.

    1. I’m afraid Depression is a learned disorder… The way we “treat” it in the West actually makes it worse in many cases. And saying things like “It doesn’t just get better” has a way of becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

  2. I feel like you’re starting an entirely new and controversial subject with your title. Bad naps can certainly ruin your day, and if enough days are ruined, then your life. Also, a possible solution is more naps. Unless they’re bad. Good naps. Good, long naps are the only solution

    1. Quit trying to dictate my reality. Next you’ll be insisting my granddaughter is a girl.

  3. Ummm, just what are you saying, John. You can’t honestly be saying that the world won’t be fine if Trump is gone? Trump has messed up everything…EVERYTHING.
But, maybe the lobotomy is a good idea.

    1. I believe JB was simply alluding to the fact that many dedicated Trump haters are prone to suggest Impeach Trump as the Solution to Every Problem Known to Mankind.

  4. The mere fact that she was awake is enounced grand to start feeling OK. Sometimes we seem vulnerable in our dream as if that is going to be the end of our life.
Indeed our dreams speak to us but not to kill us
