Let me offer some encouragement to fellow Christians discussing their faith with atheists:
BE NOT AFRAID
The godless, free-thinking, rational, enlightened intellectuals are no match for you.
They will taunt you from the sanctuary of their echo chambers with threats like, “We’ll tear your belief apart.”
Let them try!
Take your faith into the lion’s den and test it against the heathen’s wretched claws and fangs.
Recently, I did just that.
Not only did I “survive” the battle…
…I was BANISHED from the battlefield.
While that’s a minor victory I am not satisfied to merely be kicked out of the conversation.
I want them to kick the conversation out of the public forum.
I want them to censor themselves.
I’ll continue to draw attention to their insipid conversations until they make their discussion group “private”.
THAT will be a decisive victory.
So, with that end in mind, I present the following:

I’m curious. What would an atheist define as a soul? Or if they didn’t define it, and you went ahead with an explanation, how would they have used it against you?
I’m not sure sure I can explain what a soul is, that’s why I asked him to elaborate.
The closest I can come is calling it the life force. It’s the thing keeping my body alive. I’ve got no idea how they would respond to that… And it seems we’ll never know.

“Do you have evidence the soul exists?” (Yes, I realize it’s a stupid question. But that’s EXACTLY what they would ask. And then you would respond, “Yes, I have evidence that I’m alive.” and it would go from there.) 🙂

But I didn’t want to type all of that into my phone.
Lewis says that you don’t have a soul, you *are* a soul. That part that you call “me” is exactly that. I’m like you, it’s what animates your body. I wish I’d have read more about this particular subject.
I just don’t trust the heathens to be thoughtful about this stuff. It doesn’t matter what I say to a guy who admits he doesn’t believe in ANY definition of “a soul”.
Sometimes I wish Lewis’ soul would reanimate his body, so I could just follow him around saying “ditto” all the time…

This is kind of funny, but it’s a serious issue on a bigger scale. The goal really is banishment, erasure, to silence Christians. So in a really secular area, you just won’t pray in public anymore, you’ll keep your faith to yourself, you’ll tuck your cross under your sweater, and you’ll get quieter, start mumbling half answers. I’m pretty bold these days, but I’ve seen others, especially young people, really crushed by this bullying behavior.
That is exactly what it is, bullying behavior. If you don’t know how to defend your faith it can be very intimidating. I have realized from following John that while God does not need us to defend Him. We can push back at the atheist and require them to defend their belief system. They obviously hate this and get angry and kick you off their thread so they can act like they have a victory.
The more I listen to these people the more I realize how shallow their belief system and logic actually is.

This is gold. Atheism is simply the refusal to define anything. It is merely a void where people can shout nothing and comfort themselves with the echoes.
