You’re eventually going to burn me at the stake. That’s always how these things play out. When people disagree about how to deal with a perceived crisis, the rational person is always killed by the hysterical person.
Hundreds of years ago, hysterical people were terrified by the witches living among them. All the bad stuff that happened was caused by witches casting evil spells. Crops failed. Storms raged. Earthquakes rumbled. People got sick and died. All because of witches.
So the hysterical people rounded up the witches and killed them. And crops continued to fail. Storms continued to rage. People still got sick and died. So the rational people took charge of the situation and made laws banning the execution of witches.
More recently, hysterical people were terrified by the Jews living among them. The Jews were casting evil spells that benefited themselves and oppressed everyone else. Jews took control of economics, politics, and industry. People suffered in poverty and died. All because of Jews.
So the hysterical people rounded up the Jews and killed them. They also killed some non-Jews because hysterical people are HYSTERICAL. So, the rational people stepped in and took charge. The hysteria was so widespread that it required a war to end it. Thousands of people died but rational people were eventually able to make laws banning the execution of Jews.
Today, hysterical people are terrified by all the other people living among them. All humans emit a deadly, invisible toxin that kills people. Selfish, wicked people who care only for themselves, gather in large groups. They don’t wear masks. They touch each other. People get sick and die. All because of those other people.
So, the hysterical people are rushing to witch doctors who dispense magical potions which will prevent them from getting sick and dying. Because they are hysterical, they don’t notice that most people are already surviving their illness without the potion. Because they are hysterical, they don’t notice that people are continuing to get sick even with the magic elixir in their system.
The hysterical people are starting to suggest that anyone who is un-potioned be banished from society. Un-potioned people are quickly losing their status as “people” as hysteria labels them “dangers.” The un-potioned are identified by the attributes of “lacking common sense” and “not caring about the safety of others.” Hysterical people sincerely believe that removing millions of un-potioned people from society will have a POSITIVE affect on the country. It’s not burning witches at the stake but it’s a huge step in that direction.
Rational people will eventually step in and take control from hysterical people. The question is, how many lives are you going to destroy before that happens?

Great analogies in this piece John. I never thought about the hysterical people this way and you are exactly right. I just wish they would be honest about their fear and stop blaming those of us who are not afraid, because we look at data and understand that the vast majority of people survive Covid. That is a fact.
