Sneaking up on Yuletide shopping
Christmas is just around the corner.
That’s what the advertisements tell us.
Every year, “Christmas is coming!”
So we don’t forget.
Wake up one night in mid February
Hey! It’s not December anymore!
We forgot all about Christmas!
Didn’t see any ads!
The “It’s A Wonderful Life” marathon didn’t clue me.
You rotten retailers made me miss the Lord’s birthday!
I have family who are surprised every year.
“Christmas snuck up on me this year.”
Snuck up?
Like some covert ops holiday?
Camouflaged behind Lincoln’s Birthday.
You know how to read a calendar, right?
…”On December 25th, mine says ‘Father’s Day'”
…”Must be a Common Core calendar.”
Why do you think we celebrate Thanksgiving?
To remind us about Christmas!
Gobble some turkey then get out there and shop!
There are gifts to buy.
Giving gifts is a Christmas tradition.

Because the Magi gave gifts to the Christ child.

Interestingly, they didn’t give gifts to each other.

Not sure how our tradition got started.

Hope not while Jesus was still a little kid.
…I got a bike for Jesus, birthday!
Did you go to his party?
“Nah. My family had a party at our house.”
“We put up a tree and some lights.”
“We hung mistletoe.”
“We sing songs about reindeer and snowmen.”
“…that’s what Jesus would have wanted.”
Thank God for the advertisements
or I would have missed the whole thing.

  1. Hands down, my favorite line: “Must be a Common Core calendar.” Sooooo hilarious! I almost fell off my chair laughing. Funny, funny!

    1. You are laughing at the future of education. In pretty sure that’s inappropriate and offensive. Merry Christmas anyway.
