Saw a quote that said, “Humanity has everything we need to create a good world. The 10 commandments.”
I understand what you’re trying to say. Humans were given a code of ethics a long time ago. We know how we’re supposed to behave. If we were to actually obey the 10 commandments, the world would improve dramatically. Unfortunately, there’s zero chance of us following those commandments.
Originally, there was only ONE commandment and we couldn’t follow it. There’s no way we’re going to keep 10 commandments. Those commandments can’t help us create a good world. In fact, breaking them was how the good world that God created got screwed-up.
Rules don’t actually make anything good. Guidelines for behavior don’t do anything. It requires people FOLLOWING the guidelines to make something good happen. “Thou shalt not kill” doesn’t make the world better because people ignore the command.
It is true than humanity has everything we need for a good world but we aren’t the ones CREATING that world. God did that.
Originally, He put Adam and Eve into the Creation which He called “good.” In a matter of seconds, mankind ignored God’s one rule and dumped badness into the goodness. The only way to restore goodness is for humans to live without breaking God’s rules, which we never do. Ever.
So God sent Jesus who lived as a human and never broke a single one of God’s rules. Then, God blamed Jesus for all the rules that you and me break every day. That made the world good again. The rules of conduct were perfectly obeyed by Jesus. Humanity has everything we need in Christ…not the 10 commandments.
“We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
