I’ve got a great system for writing humor.
I developed it around a decade ago because I had no choice.
Imagine being assigned to write 100 original comedy monologs on dozens of lackluster topics.
Could you do it?
No?
I couldn’t either.
But that didn’t stop me from signing the contract to accept the assignment.
(It paid A LOT of money…)
So I sat down at my computer and stared at the blinking cursor.
Then I went to the kitchen and made a sandwich.
Then I played X-Box.
Then I watched the cursor blink some more.
And finally, just when I was about to give up…
…a friend invited me to go get coffee.
When I returned, the cursor was still blinking and the page was still blank.
Inspiration is elusive and unpredictable.
I didn’t have time to wait for inspiration.
So I started without it.
And that changed everything.
Turns out, inspiration is overrated.
Without so much as a germ of an idea, I started writing.
After a few minutes, I had a hundred ideas.
None of them were funny.
So I started playing around with the raw, unfunny ideas I had written.
Randomly connecting them together and scooching them around.
(“Scooching” is a sophisticated writing term that means “moving”.)
That’s when I discovered that individual ideas don’t actually exist!
Ideas are always surrounded by dozens of other ideas.
Every single idea is really a swarm of thoughts.
There are infinite ideas in the swarm.
My writing method taps into the power of the swarm.
It empowered me to write those 100 monologs.
And lead to a commission to write 50 more.
One hundred and fifty unique comedy monologs!?!!
No sweat.
Piece of cake.
Since then, I’ve refined the technique.
And created a course to teach you how to do it!
So you don’t have to stare at blank pages and blinking cursors.
You don’t have to struggle with writer’s block.
You’ll have more material than you can use.
I’m not kidding.
One of my students recently complained that he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the amount of material he was creating.
I feel responsible for his anxiety.
If you can’t handle an overwhelming number of writing ideas…
If you are comforted by blank pages and writer’s block…
If banging your head on your desk is therapeutic…
Just keep doing what you’re doing.
This course supercharges productivity.
You spend less time staring at blinking cursors.
You generate pages of material.
And have fun doing it.
…you would hate that.
