I get it.
My comments on the culture are incendiary and unkind.
I’m hurting your feelings.
Is it because I’m talking about ‘current’ culture?
Too soon?
Too close?
…too relevant?
I’m driving people away from Jesus.
That’s the last thing I want to do.
But I feel a conviction to speak what I believe to be truth.
So I’m going to compromise.
I will respect your wishes and remain silent on current ‘hot topics’.
…but historical ‘hot topics’ are fair game.
This post will be a sarcastic commentary of cultural events
…that happened 100 years ago.
…
Population in the US is now over 100 million!
…no way we can sustain this many people for another 50 years.
Woodrow Wilson isn’t doing jack about overpopulation.
…Federal Reserve won’t help when people are starving in the streets!
We can’t eat money, Mr. President.
And while I’m at it…
There were 114 Americans aboard the Lusitania.
You gonna actually do anything to Germany?
…or do you still think Kaiser Wilhelm heads a ‘peaceful political movement’?
Saw the film, ‘Inspiration’ starring Audrey Munson.
She takes her clothes off !
On screen!
Movies are supposed to be about stories.
…shocking people isn’t going to cut it, Hollywood.
…nobody wants to see naked people in the movies.
Can you believe they awarded the Nobel Prize to Sir William Bragg for his analysis of crystal structures?
…wake me up when they give a prize to the first black President of the United States.
Temperatures are chilly again this year.
You science deniers still want to tell me we aren’t headed for an ice age?
…I’ll laugh as I ride my dog sled over your frozen carcasses.
And finally…
You ladies need to be home, nurturing children…
…not out voting.
…
Hopefully this article is far enough in the past that it’s completely inoffensive.
Bad people say offensive things.
And I don’t want to be a bad person.
Much better to be insignificant.

Great laughter and logic to read while waiting for our power to be restored after am storm. Keep it coming!
Is it Hawkins or Smiley who said, “if you can’t laugh at yourself, I’ll do it for you”?
Hawkins. Sort of. “If you can’t laugh at yourself…laugh at other people.”
Zing!!
Keep at it sir! In this era of micro-offenses and micro-traumas, which has led to micro-influence, humor and irony have a penetrating effect, affecting areas in which we did not know we’ve been inoculated by our culture. Christianity rightly lived has always been counter-cultural. Now is the time to decide whether we believe God, or our culture (or self) is the absolute moral authority.
Thanks, Lynda. You make a great point. Maybe our response to humor is an indicator as to how ‘counter’ our ‘culture’ really is. The more offended we are, the less effective.
