Lots of people encouraging me to give myself permission.

While it’s nice to have permission to give myself permission…

I’m getting mixed messages.

For example:

So I gave myself permission to be truthful with myself which unsettled me because myself has a long history of lying to myself so I didn’t trust myself to give me this permission.

Immediately after giving myself permission to tell myself the truth, I saw this:

But then I saw this:

So, do I need permission to make a great living and define my own freedoms?

If I do, who gives this permission?

Myself?

What if myself isn’t being truthful with myself yet?

What if myself tells me that I don’t need permssion for making a great living?

Then I came across this:

What if I need to feel Shamu’s nose?

Does my self permission override the strict ‘No Petting’ policty at Sea World?

And then this:

If I am not myself then who is giving this permission?

Can I trust that whoever I was before I became myself has my best interest in mind?

Then, to make things worse, I saw this:

I need to specify not only that I am permitted to be myself but also the BEST myself that I can be.

But since I did not have permission to be the BEST version of myself yet…

…this permission is coming from an inferior version of myself…

…who may not be qualified to give permission in the first place!

THEN THIS:

The meaning of this is unclear.

Is it the go-ahead for baldness?

Is it permission to setup a shoeshine stand?

Is it encouraging me to wax the car?

And does this permission to myself come from my truthful self?

…and do I even need permission at all?

And then this:

In contrast to this:

If I let go…

…I can’t hang-on to the rewards of my success.

AND:

Apparently women don’t need permission even from themselves and once they start leading they can change that so…they WILL need permission?  Is that right?

And finally I read this:

Which left me utterly distraught.

…then I had an idea.

It was this:

  2. “We as a species armed with understanding and explanations that work have moved well past that archaic ontology to a 3D interactive model (specifically of interacting fields rather than isolated articulated objects). Effect is now understood to be an inevitable product of the present. Inevitable. It makes no sense to call the present a ’cause’ when the chain is so intertwined with different fields… from the micro to the macro. That’s physics today and it indicates the universe can be understood without any need for anything other than a purely ‘natural’, unguided, purposeless, mindless physical processes that produce all kinds of marvelous emergent properties. And that order is important to grasp: not mind then processes but processes that produce mind.”

Permission has begotten itself in order to beget itself. Don’t you know physics?

    1. I’ve given myself permission to remain ignorant of the physics that enable me to give myself permission.

      1. My 3D model of thinking can attribute all credit to John Zande; no credit is being misappropriated. I am, however, considering quoting JZ quoting Drumpf at you to further twist the knife in your wounds. Despite his valiant efforts, you do not seem to understand the misery that you are actually in. It’s very frustrating when you stubbornly refuse to fit the narrative forced upon you by JZ’s enlightened self-interest.

  3. Well I needed that laugh! Memes can be fun, but sometimes I get a little underwhelmed with how vacuous our culture is becoming. Spirituality by meme is kind of a depressing prospect. I love your commentary almost as much as I love your comedy. Keep up the very good work!

  4. Anyone trained in approval-seeking will perk up at the word “permission.” If you don’t automatically get why, you’re still a few self help books away from total bliss.

  5. Do we need permission to even say anything here?

I apparently gave it to myself, because I just did.

But, what if you took it back? Which permission rules.

    I’m confused.
