(Genesis 1:11) And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.
You ever wondered why peaches aren’t corn on the cob? (I have.) It’s weird that grapes never grow on apple trees and that oranges don’t pop out of pea pods. The seeds that come out of watermelons always produce more watermelons. Oak trees only grow from acorns.
It is God who decides the nature of every plant on Earth. God created the differences between peaches and corn. Tomatoes do not decide to become pumpkins. Their identity is selected by their creator. They are not empowered to change their essence.
Thank God.
You ever imagined the chaos it would create if plants could change their identity? (I have.) Salads would be totally unpredictable. Maintaining a yard would be impossible as grass arbitrarily morphed into ragweed. Bananas would turn to nettles in your mouth. You could jump into a pile of leaves to have it become a rose bush.
It is good that God decides the characteristics of plants. He is infinitely wise and His decisions bring about order. If God makes a pineapple, I won’t call it a turnip no matter how angry it makes the other produce.
