Sin is the main reason that children think it’s possible to choose their own gender. While I believe that God will hold each person accountable for their own sins, grown-up people bear some responsibility for children’s sins. God expects adults to pass the truth on to children (That includes you adults who don’t believe in God).

“And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck.”

(Mark 9:42)

Would you encourage a child to drink bleach? Would you give a loaded pistol to a toddler? What if the babysitter let your 6-year-old drive the car because the child, “Said she knew how?” Would the traffic accident be the kid’s fault or the babysitter’s? So, why would you tell a boy he can choose to be a girl?

“Because children should be free to decide their identity, John!”

Really? On whose authority do you make that claim? Children can’t decide how tall they’re going to be. Children can’t choose their parents. Children don’t get to pick their allergies, their hair color, or their musical aptitude. There is no rational basis for claiming anyone can determine their gender.

Children depend on adults to teach them about reality. When you tell children that reality is “whatever you make it,” just go ahead and slip a millstone necktie over your head.

Being an adult, you’re supposed to possess more knowledge than children. It does not stifle a child’s true identity when you refuse to let her eat a hornet’s nest. In fact, children can’t know their true identity unless they know their limits. They can’t know who they are without also knowing who they are not.

Christians are the only people on Earth who are required to tell the truth. Pagans can choose to tell the truth at their discretion. When the truth makes life uncomfortable, the heathen are free to make up lies. That means, Christians are the only reliable source of truth a child has.

Before you can speak the truth you have to know the truth. But knowing the truth won’t help anybody unless you have the guts to speak it. Confused children don’t need understanding and empathy. They need wisdom. God gave you wisdom to use for His glory. Be bold. Speak the truth.

Say it as lovingly as you want, but SAY it.
