I think Michael Knowles is a Christian and my opinion of his faith really doesn’t matter. The following commentary is not a judgment on his character or standing with God. Also, I’m not perfect and I make mistakes. Also, I don’t know what goes on in anyone else’s heart. Also, I think God can reach people using any means He chooses. Also, [please insert whatever words you need to hear in order to refrain from telling me why it’s wrong to offer my opinion about ‘He Gets Us.’]

Michael, I get you. I even sort of agree with you. Sometimes God uses His enemies to bring glory to Himself. That’s one of the features of being, ‘Almighty.’ He literally does whatever He wants, whenever He wants to do it.

You already see the problem with ‘He Gets Us’. In fact, you stated it! “It’s not for us. It’s for secular libs.” Boom! That’s the whole diabolical message. Perfectly stated.

“He Gets Us” isn’t reaching out to ‘lost people.’ It is a love letter to people who already believe that Jesus prefers some sins over others. Who is missing from the ads? In all the pictures of people Jesus ‘gets,’ whose faces are absent? You don’t see the MAGA zealots, billionaires, Texas citizens building fences on the border, pro-life advocates, white supremacists, Israel supporters, gun owners, or anti-vaxxers. There were no pictures of corporate CEOs getting their feet washed. Apparently, Jesus doesn’t ‘get’ those people.

‘He Gets Us’ is not for ALL of us. It’s for SOME of us.

“John, you jerk!! Maybe the ads aren’t perfect but God can still use them to reach people!!!! He can use this flawed campaign to bring people into His loving family you ARROGANT HATEFUL JERK!!!!”

Yes. You might recall I made that point earlier. The fact that God can still reach people despite false messaging doesn’t justify the false messaging. God can overcome lies. That doesn’t excuse liars. Leading people to sin is cause for despair. That warrants more from you than a shrug and pithy, “Oh, well! God uses whom he chooses!”

It’s true that Jesus ‘gets us.’ We need a savior. In Jesus, that’s what ALL OF US ‘got.’

(Matthew 18:7) “Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!”
