I believe in magic.
It is the best explanation for science.
In fact, it’s the ONLY explanation for science.
Science gets credit for explaining a lot of stuff.
Truth be told, science doesn’t explain anything.
Zilch.
Science discovers stuff.
Science describes stuff.
But neither discovery nor description are explanation.
Science will enthusiastically tell you how your eyes work.
“Light hits the back of your eyeball which sends a signal through the optic nerve to your brain.”
Okay!
But how do I “see”?
Magic.
Mysterious, mystical forces are what makes science work.
Don’t let the scientists tell you otherwise.
Sometimes scientists claim their “discoveries” are “explanations”.
They’re not.
Electricity is magic.
Gravity is magic.
Wind is magic.
Life is magic.
But magic doesn’t happen by itself.
Wherever you find magic, there’s a magician.

Science cannot even explain why science. But it’s a real sleight of hand parlor trick when you get into quantum science and cosmology. Lawrence Krauss and his ilk tell us that the universe “poofed” into existence from nothing. So, now we’re left with the absurdity that things possess motive power derivatively (like quantum flux or inflation) but ultimately derive such a power from nothing at all.
Yup, magic.
In the fictional movie the wizard of oz, the dog toto pulls back the curtain to reveal the wizard behind the veil. In the real world, the wizard (God), voluntarily comes from behind the veil and yells ” here I am, here I am “. Sadly many people close their eyes and plug their ears and say that if God would only reveal Himself then they would believe. I guarantee that Darwin, Neitzsche, Hitchins, and now Hawking are not saying ” if only God had revealed Himself “. Sadly, they are begging that God would send someone back from the dead to warn others not to come to where they are….oh wait-He already did that.
Amen. I believe in magic, too. I sometimes say God is like much loved uncle, pulling quarters from behind His ear to delight the kids. Then we come along and declare it’s just a trick. Not only do quarters not really come from His ears, now He doesn’t even exist. We can do that if we want. Or, you could just enjoy the show, bask in the affection being shown to you, and start collecting quarters. It’s a sad thing to be such a cynic that you can’t even see the truth and beauty behind the magic.
