To David Hogg,
I’m a flawed human being.
Using my frequently inadequate wisdom and intellect, I’ve helped raise four imperfect children.
Today, I’m going to do for you what I’ve done many times for my own beloved, broken kids…
…offer unsolicited advice.
Feel free to roll your eyes and groan.
I’ve seen that hundreds of times.
I just ignore it.
And that’s my advice to you.
Ignore the stupid, thoughtless, irrelevant things people say.
You are a national spokesman for a political cause, expect some people to disagree with you.
Expect a few cheap shots.
People say grossly unfair things in politics.
Stuff like:
““The pathetic f***ers that want to keep killing our children, they could have blood from children splattered all over their faces and they wouldn’t take action because they all still see those dollar signs,”
That’s what you said about NRA members and 2nd amendment lawmakers.
And you said this about people like me:
“At this point its like when your old-a** parent is like, ‘I don’t know how to send an iMessage’ and you’re like, ‘Ok give me the f***ing phone’ and you take it and you get it done in one second. Sadly, that’s what we have to do with our government because our parents don’t know how to use a f***ing democracy so we have to do it.”
I can ignore these quotes because they’re silly.
Did you think your status as a survivor of gun violence means you can say stupid things without consequence?
Did you think you were going to solve the problem of gun violence with a couple of television interviews?
Do you believe your cause is important enough to suffer for it?
Forgiveness is more important than politics.
When you see the ugliness in your own heart, you’ll be able to forgive Laura Ingraham.
“I think it’s really disgusting, the fact that [Laura Ingraham] basically tried promoting her show after apologizing to me”
Dear boy, you promoted your “show” when you refused that apology.
Laura Ingraham made a mistake.
She didn’t shoot your classmates.
Neither did the millions of NRA members.
Neither did Marco Rubio.
Neither did my old-a** parents.
These people are not your enemy.
You’re swimming in the deep end of the pool now.
Don’t shriek when somebody splashes your hair.
Very soon, you’ll no longer be useful in the political arena.
The cameras will be pointed at somebody else.
So spend your time saying true things and making real friends.

Well said. Really sad to me that “a**hole parents” carries such weight in our culture. That thing about honor your parents, isn’t a suggestion, it’s a commandment and it has a whole lot to do with your own spiritual well being and the health of a society.
Also, those who are exploiting, encouraging, taking advantage of this kid are flat out, emotional and psychological abusers. He should have been kept away from the cameras, given time to grieve and process everything spiritually and emotionally. This is child abuse, this is exploitation that has no concern for his well being.
Well,at least Branyan cares, so that’s something.
I know how pretentious and self-righteous this is going to sound…but where ARE this boy’s parents? No way my 17-year old son goes on CNN by himself. When this child is destroyed it will be because he had zero adult supervision.
Amen. That was my thought, too. Poor kid has been thrown to the wolves alone and he doesn’t even realize it.
The ideologies the poor kid follow, are the wolves.
I’m not so sure this one will be destroyed.
He will likely lead others to THEIR destruction. Be concerned about the teens who listen to him and identify with him.
Your kids are lucky to have a Dad that spoke truth to them like this!!
