Social media is great for when you want unsolicited criticism from random strangers about stuff that isn’t relevant to you. I’ve gotten so much of it that it’s overwhelming so I’ve merged the hundreds and hundreds of comments into a single, easy to read post that perfectly summarizes the sentiments.

——————-

You know, John, you’re simply wrong. I used to be just like you.

Totally lacking the empathy and compassion of Christ’s example. I spouted the evangelical code “love the sin but hate the sinner” and even though you’ve never actually uttered that phrase, I’m sure you agree with the sentiment. Over the years I witnessed a lot of things that simply did not sit right with my heart and soul. Something seemed “off.” Have you ever eaten bratwurst that has gone bad and then ridden a roller coaster? That’s how my heart felt after I witnessed things that didn’t sit right. I wondered why my beautiful, trustworthy, all-knowing heart was so troubled.

So, I started questioning things. I listened to criticism of what I was taught and believed. And I saw that I was totally lacking the empathy and compassion of Christ’s example! So I ditched Christianity. I abandoned everything I was taught and started “loving the sinners and hating the Christians.”

Once I dug down and got into the truth, I found peace. I’m so content, I spend my days commenting on your posts so you’ll know I think you suck. Turns out a lot of what the western evangelical church teaches is simply wrong. I know you’re going to ask for a specific example of a wrong teaching, but I’m not playing your silly game.

John, you’re a jerk. Nobody likes you. I used to be like you but then I decided to turn into a smart, empathetic, compassionate soul who sees the good in all people. I’m not pathetic like you anymore.

Also…you’re not funny.
