Christians, unite!
It’s time to rise up and mix metaphors.
Let’s turn over a new day and tackle the elephant in the room.
Your pastor is a nice guy.
(Or gal. I know some pastors are gals. But I’m not going to write he/she over and over again because it’s awkward to read. I’ll write “he” but feel free to read whatever pronoun applies…)
You love and respect him.
Sincerely.
But he’s not funny.
That’s not a sin!
He’s going to get to heaven by the grace of God, just like you and me.
And in Heaven, you won’t have to listen to him preach anymore!
In the meantime, wouldn’t it be great if a professional comedian would teach your pastor how to be funnier when he speaks?
Yes?
What a coincidence!
I was thinking the same thing.
This July, I’m conducting a comedy workshop just for pastors.
I’ll show your pastor how to illustrate sermon points with humor.
I’ll teach him how to take ordinary life events and make them funny.
I’ll enable him to toss the “Big Book of Dumb Preacher Jokes” in the trash.
Basically, I’ll help him capture your attention.
And…you’re welcome.
If you want to sign-up your pastor for the workshop, follow this link: https://johnbranyan.com/comedy-workshop-for-a-better-life/
Or you could send the link to your pastor if you trust him not to lose it or forget to register.
(Remember – this is the guy who can’t remember to turn his microphone on.)
The workshop is interactive and I work closely with each person – so seating is limited.
Friends don’t let Pastor’s tell lame jokes.
If each one will reach one pastor – we’ll change the world!
Will you join me in the fight against lackluster sermons?
“All it takes for dull preaching to triumph is for funny people to do nothing.”
– Edmund Burke (paraphrased almost beyond recognition by me.)
One Response
Fantastic, John!
I recently attended a Lenten retreat, where the guest pastor promised to give a special treat to anyone who arrived early.
He filled the time before the talk telling ancient, lame jokes that had nothing whatsoever to do with his sermon. Apparently this is his thing, and he’s told them so often he doesn’t even bother with timing. He got distracted during one, and didn’t even realize he was talking gibberish and blending 2 jokes.
So, telling jokes badly (especially during Lent?) is nearly as bad as no humor at all.
You are a rock star of the comedic world!
Until we reach Heaven, thank you for doing your part in making Sunday sermons better for all. Humor can be the glue that helps a sermon stick to the soul when the pastor throws it at us. Mixing metaphors, but if he pitches his sermons right, he can help us make a Home run.
Keeping you, and your loved ones, in my prayers,
❤️🙏❤️Katy
