Louisville is directly South of my town. This is a message of encouragement to all the single mom’s living in my town who are trying to get to Louisville by going North.

You don’t need the church to buy you diapers and formula.

You don’t need access to healthcare.

You don’t need better education about birth control.

Your boss doesn’t need to give you more time off.

You don’t need more food stamps.

You don’t need free day care.

You don’t need ANY help on your current journey to Louisville because no matter how much money, support, attention, compassion, and love you get – you’re going in the wrong direction.

Some people will tell you that your children are the problem. That’s a lie. You’re never going to reach Louisville even after you’ve disposed of your kids.

The only way you’re ever going to make progress is to turn around. Go in the opposite direction. The Bible calls that, “repentance.”

Sin is going in a direction away from God. When you discover that you’re moving away from God, the sensible thing to do is change course. But it’s your choice! Nobody will force you to repent. If you want, you can keep driving North for the rest of your life. You’ll become more sad, bitter, and desperate with each passing mile. Your friends call that, “empowerment.”

You can blame the church for not supporting you. You can blame the government for not educating you. You can blame the baby-daddy for being just as selfish as you (he’s driving North too). Blame whoever you want for your miserable life. Keep driving North and stay miserable.

Single moms, there is no greater support I can offer than to tell you the truth. There is no greater act of kindness than to encourage you to repent. God is the source of life. Turn around and move toward life.

“You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.” – Acts 20:20
