After Jesus left Earth He ascended into Heaven to be seated on a throne at the right hand of God. We Christians immediately went to work trying to shove Him off that throne. Our most recent efforts to unseat Jesus have been somewhat effective.

Scooching Jesus around has been part of church practices for centuries. We scooch Jesus in order to make room for some important ministry. While we preach, “Jesus is the answer,” we supplement Christ with our own works of righteousness. That means, Jesus has to scooch over to make room for our good works on the throne.

Currently, we’re scooching Jesus so we can fix race relations. The church does not believe Jesus’ crucifixion covered the sin of racism. Christians across the country are trying to atone for their sins of privilege and oppression. We believe that the Bible is incorrect when it claims that Christ’s sacrifice satisfied the wrath of God. The church now teaches that Jesus needs us to pay for some of our sins.

The tricky part is figuring out which sins aren’t covered by Jesus. The Bible is no help because reading it only perpetuates the idea that ALL sin is forgiven:

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:1

So the church has scooched Jesus out of the way to make room for teachers like Robin DiAngelo to preach to us that no matter what the Bible says about forgiveness and atonement, we can never be free from the evils of white supremacy.

“However, I hope to have made clear that white supremacy is something much more pervasive and subtle than the actions of explicit white nationalists. White supremacy describes the culture we live in, a culture that positions white people and all that is associated with them (whiteness) as ideal. White supremacy is more than the idea that whites are superior to people of color; it is the deeper premise that supports this idea—the definition of whites as the norm or standard for human, and people of color as a deviation from that norm.”

Robin DiAngelo – “White Fragility”

Scooching Jesus around leaves us with work to do. The work of salvation is not finished. The preachers now proclaim that we owe reparations to the people we have oppressed. We must apologize for pain we didn’t know we inflicted. Ignorance is no excuse. In fact, ignorance is also a form of wickedness according to the new religion we’ve placed at God’s right hand.

True Christianity teaches that Jesus is the only path to God. There are no additional requirements. Any teacher who claims that racism prevails after Jesus said, “It is finished,” – is not telling the truth. Jesus payed for my wickedness on the cross. He didn’t need my help to accomplish the task.

I’m leaving Christ where He is at God’s right hand. Nothing I have to offer is worthy of either taking His place or even sharing His place.

  1. Christ’s sacrifice did indeed satisfy the wrath of God. It did not, however, satisfy the wrath of Satan. The wrath of Satan is ultimately not relevant to Christians, so by all means, we should not be trying to appease him. Offering inappropriate appeasements to his followers, as so many are trying to do, is surely not what is meant by “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
