“I understand how some of what I said upset people and can be misinterpreted. I meant no disrespect to any individual or group. And I want to look to the future as much as anybody.” – Hillary Clinton, 2018
Looking to the future seems to be popular these days.
But it’s an insipid pastime.
The future is unavoidable.
It’s going to arrive whether you’re looking or not.
PRESTO!
The future just arrived…
…and now it’s gone.
PRESTO!
Here it is again…
…and gone!
How long are you gonna sit here and keep looking at the future rushing past?
Contrary to popular opinion, the future isn’t an oracle that will lavish wisdom on mankind.
There’s no magic in tomorrow.
Yesterday should have proved that.
It is naive to keep gazing toward the future expecting enlightenment to come from longevity.
It’s worse to expect I’ll applaud your progressive, forward-thinking.
The future won’t change the present’s bad ideas into brilliance.
The future can’t teach you anything.
You can only learn from the past.
So spare me the sanctimony of your future-mindedness.
Try a little humility.
Turn your head 180 degrees and look at the past.
See all those mistakes?
Each one is an opportunity for growth.
While you proudly looked to the future you ignored these bygone tutors.
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
There isn’t any reason to eagerly anticipate tomorrow…
…unless you fix your stupidity today.

Great post, John!
I was just reading a commentary that reminds me of you, and your style. I like some of the “rules” for driving Libs nuts, and thought you might like to see this.
With gratitude for what you do, and the laughter you bring into this world,
😊Katy

For the record, the term “basket of deplorables” is something Hillary considers a term of endearment. It’s how she refers to her grandkids, just as one example.
