An easy way to sell merchandise to simpletons is to use the word, “Love.” It doesn’t matter how you use it. Just stick that word somewhere on whatever you’re trying to sell and it turns your garbage into artwork for dummies.

For example, you can use the phrase, “Love Over Verses” to sell T-shirts to people who don’t think. The Lack of Discernment Market is huge. They proudly proclaim any sentiment that contains the word, ‘love’ even if the sentiment is incoherent or self-contradicting.

When they see a shirt proclaiming, “Love Over Verses,” simpletons pull out their credit cards without spending a microsecond to notice that many verses explain what love IS and how we are to do it. Without verses, we have no definition of ‘love.’ You cannot put love ‘over’ the verses that tell you what love is.

“John, you jerk! I don’t need your phony, invisible Sky Fairy in order to understand love!! I know what love is without your stupid book of fables and your god!!!!”

You’re correct. You don’t need to use bible verses to define ‘love.’ But you do need to use verses from somewhere. You can use verses from a song, the dictionary, poetry, or the Humanist Manifesto; but you are going to define love using words and it is absurd to say that love itself is somehow ‘over’ the very words by which it is understood. Saying ‘Love Over Verses’ is like saying, ‘Shapes Over Geometry.’ You can’t have circles without geometry. You can’t have love without verses.

The Lack of Discernment Market never notices irony. Detecting contradictions requires thoughtfulness. If you’re a person who doesn’t see the irony in a statement that advocates ‘Love’ while simultaneously taking a cynical swipe at the Bible…get out your credit card! Operators are standing by to take your order!

(1 John 4:15) If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

  1. One other irony. Love itself is a word. The word “love” can all by itself be a verse.

What is “love over verses” actually complaining about? The Bible does not define “sex” as “love.” The Naked Pastor fashions himself as a truth teller, but he scratches itchy ears the old fashion way. He tells folks what they want to hear.
