So you quit going to church and gave up Christianity because you know a horrible person who claims to be a Christian, huh?
That makes a lot of sense. I met someone who told me they were a vegetarian while they were eating a steak! So I quit eating vegetables. I also sold my car and gave up driving because the hypocritical vegetarian was wearing a NASCAR shirt.
I’m kidding. Here’s an important lesson that you apparently didn’t learn as a child: “Sometimes, people say things that aren’t true.”
It is a certainty that from time to time you will encounter people who are not what they claim to be. You will never experience peace or joy if you’re constantly surprised and outraged by liars. And you are at risk of losing your salvation when you reject Christ because of phony “Christians.”
“John, you jerk! You’re defending pedophile priests and alcoholic husbands who beat their wives and children!!”
Believe it or not, there is no scripture that supports pedophilia, alcoholism, or spousal abuse. Those things are forbidden by the Christian faith. Those things are called, “sins” and they are the reason that Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross. Christ’s sacrifice makes it possible for pedophiles, alcoholics, spouse abusers, and even you to stand blameless before God.
When you leave the faith, God will hold you responsible for your sins. You won’t be allowed to talk about the horrible person you met who claimed to be a Christian. God will deal with THAT person too. The only difference between you and the hypocritical Christian is Jesus; and you chucked Jesus during your childish fit of self-righteousness.
SUMMARY: The dumbest idea you’ve ever had was quitting Christianity because you know someone else who quit Christianity. Every person on Earth is a liar. Only God is true. Call on Jesus to rescue you.
