I know you’ve got a tough job. As an elected official, you suffer in ways that citizens like me can’t even imagine. In order to obtain your office, you paid a great price. You willingly gave up a lot of things that I simply would not. You sacrificed your time, your energy, your principles, and your integrity. In an astonishing act of selflessness, you surrendered most of the things that made you human.
Every single day, hundreds of voices bombard you with differing points of view. Everybody demands your attention. Everybody wants something from you! You live with a never ending stream of nagging requests that prevents you from enjoying the prestige, wealth, and power that motivated you to become a public servant in the first place.
The already difficult task of leadership is made even harder by your lack of a soul. You don’t possess a way to determine right and wrong for yourself. You have to listen to what other people tell you. That is why I’m here.
I’m not here to criticize you. It is not my intention to upset you. I am not affiliated with any political group. I just want to voice an opinion that you apparently have not yet heard.
I disapprove of riots.
Until now, you have only heard from the people who like riots so you didn’t know there was an alternative point of view to consider. That’s not your fault! I’m the one with a conscience. I should have spoke up sooner!
I don’t think it is good when mobs roam the streets setting things on fire. It’s not good when they destroy property and loot businesses. It’s not good when innocent people are injured or killed. And while I know free speech is important, and you’re doing an outstanding job of listening to the rioters as they express themselves – I disapprove of riots.
I’m only bringing this to your attention because your position affords you some options that aren’t available to regular citizens. You have tools like militia and police forces. I don’t have those things. So I can’t do much to make the rioting stop. But you can.
Again, I understand that up to this point you didn’t know the riots were bothering anybody. Empathy and compassion were two of the things you had to let go when you went into politics. You don’t need to apologize for standing by while cities burned all around you. From inside your ivory tower you can’t even smell smoke.
You’re not ignorant anymore! I’m saying as clearly as I know how that lawlessness is not okay with me. Looting, rioting, pillaging, arson, and assault are bad things and I do not like them at all. I strongly disapprove of chaos. It is in your best interest to use your power to stop anarchy. (There are no elected officials in anarchism. When you let rioters go too long, you’re out of a job.)
Let me offer a simple test that will help you figure out when you’re seeing a riot. Look for a vehicle, piece of property, or human being. Ask yourself, “If that piece of property or vehicle belonged to me, or if that human being was me; would I approve of what is happening right now?” If you answer, “No,” then you’re watching a riot.
For the record: I disapprove of riots. I want you to use your position of authority to stop rioting from happening. I want you to leave protestors who do not break the law alone. Violence is bad. Peaceful disagreement is okay.
Thanks for listening to me! Feel free to refer to this video in the future when somebody sets your Town Hall on fire and you’re not sure how to respond.
This page is open to the public. Share it with your elected officials. The more times they see it, the better. They are greatly influenced by mobs.
One Response
I disapprove as well. They don’t seem to care.
