Okay, twenty-eighteen, you better bring your “A” game.

We’re expecting a lot out of you.

Honestly, we didn’t think we’d ever meet you.

Trump got elected President.

That was supposed to destroy the Earth but somehow we’re still here.

New Years is supposed to have magical powers.

Powers to overcome all of last year’s agitations.

So it’s your job to make us happy.

Work your magic, twenty-eighteen.

Count on us for no help.

Zero.

We’ll keep doing what we’ve always done.

Whine about unfairness.

Blame our circumstances on others.

Refuse to acknowledge our mistakes.

Respond to the mistakes of others with impatience.

Embrace laziness.

Advance selfishness.

Criticize things we don’t understand.

Sneer a lot.

Be pessimistic.

Assume everyone is trying to harm us.

Ignore differing points of view.

Cease learning.

Nurture bitterness.

Justify grudges.

Seek victimhood.

Eat too much.

Laugh too little.

And sacrifice friendships for politics and religion.

What we’re saying, twenty-eighteen, is it’s all up to you.

Fulfill us!

Turn our cynicism into enthusiasm.

Give us wonderful dreams and then…

…make those dreams come true.

We’re waiting…

Get busy!

You’ve got 12 months.

  1. Actually, I’m pretty stoked, because I just found this on-line course to help heal me of my Toxic Whiteness.

Hopefully, they’ll follow up with a course to cure me of my toxic masculinity so I can become be a paragon of virtue.

    Bring it on, 2018!!

  2. Honestly, I’m looking forward to 2020 – that will be the year with the biggest demands. We should, I expect, be able to look at everything in our past with 20/20 hindsight, and everything in our future with perfect perspective. Won’t that be great? Is Barbara Walters still alive?
