Beware whenever someone tells you what Jesus did without reference to some scripture. The reason that God went to the trouble of spending 1500 years writing the Bible is so that our theology wouldn’t shift with the musings of modern day prophets.
(Mark 2:16) When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the “sinners” and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
If you look closely, you’ll notice that Jesus didn’t say, “Nobody needs a doctor! I came to welcome and embrace the untouchables.” There is nothing in His comment that should give you the impression that Jesus embraced the outcasts. God didn’t send Jesus to show us that we are accepted. God sent Jesus to make us acceptable.
It is a challenging task to read the Bible and come away with the belief that God has been mostly happy with mankind’s behavior throughout history (and by ‘difficult’ I mean, ‘impossible.’) Therefore, anyone claiming that Jesus went around esteeming sinners and scolding righteous people can safely (and correctly) be categorized as a ‘speaker of lies.’ Lies should be thrown out of your theology.
A savior who welcomes and embraces sinners is as worthless as a doctor who tolerates disease. Jesus doesn’t need a public relations director. He is capable of speaking for himself.
