Every year we spend the entire month of June testing God’s patience with something called, “Pride Month.” It is a celebration of something that the Bible repeatedly tells us we shouldn’t do— be proud!

During the month of June I traditionally ask the most energetic celebrants, “What are you proud of, exactly?” Instead of answering the question, many of these Pro-Pride people tell me that the question itself is homophobic. I’ve suffered some consequences for just asking for clarification. Apparently, it is inappropriate to ask for the reason behind all this ‘pride.’

The word, “love” gets tossed around a lot during this month because it’s easier to sell the public on a month long recognition of ‘love’ than on an extended celebration of sodomy. For the month of June, we pretend that homosexuality has nothing to do with sex. Rainbows and glitter distract us from the truth that the next 30 days are simple affirmations of hedonism and depravity. We ignore the defining aspect of LGBTQ culture to focus on “LGBTQ culture, achievements and activism.”

I’ve invented a game to help you enjoy Pride month more than it deserves. You’re going to be overwhelmed with propaganda this month. Whenever you encounter some “Pride” related advertisement, meme, commercial, billboard, or signage, look to see if the word ‘sex’ appears ANYWHERE in the message. If it does, award yourself 1 point. You’re trying to score at least 3 points by the end of the month. (I’m not optimistic about your chances of success.)

Pride month is similar to recognizing sex-traffickers with something called, “Travel Month.” Our whole freaking country would dress up in colorful costumes, stage parades, plan rallies, and speak about how great it is to join hands with people who think differently about slavery than we do. I would be labeled a hateful roam-a-phobe for asking, “What does the word ‘travel’ mean?” Because when you actually know what it is we’re celebrating, there’s no reason to feel pride.
