I’ve been occupied by a new project which has kept me from blogging.

(It’s an online course…that’s all I’m gonna say for now.)

The pandemic of  ‘marches’ and ‘demonstrations’ have me thinking about babies.

So I’m putting my project aside to write about something else I deeply care about…

…sex.

Actually, I’m writing about the opposite of sex.

Because I ran across this hard-hitting criticism of abstinence education programs.

Prior to 30 minutes ago, I didn’t know there was such a thing as ‘Abstinence Education’.

I thought babies were born with abstinence skills.

Turns out, those skills are NOT sufficient!

The ‘youth advocates’ article insists:

“Accurate, balanced sex education – including information about contraception and condoms – is a basic human right of youth.”

Kids got a right to contraception!

Condoms are on the list with food, shelter, and affection.

The article makes a case for more federal funding of ‘comprehensive’ sex education.

Obviously, if children are going to learn about sex the government will have to pay for it.

And apparently, the concept of ‘not-having-sex’ is complicated.

Planned Parenthood has helpfully answered some questions about abstinence.

  • What is abstinence?
  • How does abstinence prevent pregnancy?
  • How effective is abstinence?
  • How safe is abstinence?

…how safe is abstinence…

I vividly remember a couple in my high school.

Prolonged virginity caused them to burst into flames during the commencement ceremony.

Both articles are examples of useless dogma.

Both speak with solemn seriousness about making decisions regarding sex.

Neither gives any reason for why they treat sex as sacred.

How is human sex different from baboon sex?

It isn’t.

…except that baboons haven’t been educated about condoms.

Missing from both articles is the most important aspect of sex education.

Humans are made in the image of God.

Abstinence isn’t merely a method for avoiding ‘unwanted’ pregnancy.

Abstinence is how sex becomes an act of worship.

It makes sex sacred.

Pro-choice people rejoice!

You choose what to do with your body!

Save it for a sacred relationship…

…or be a baboon!

  1. Humans are made in the image of God.

Exactly how is this beneficial and for atheists and every person who does not beleive in your god, what then?

    1. Hi Dig-Dug,

It’s ‘beneficial’ the same way ducks benefit from knowing how to swim.

And for you who ‘do not believe in my god’ then go ahead and have sex like baboons! No reason to teach abstinence to a bunch of animals.

      1. Ah, so instead of offering an answer that has substance and meaning, a way of at least trying to balance out the article you linked so that it helps rather than denigrates, you resort to responding in a manner that perfectly illustrates the type of animal you are.
        Well done, Branyan.

You are such an inspiration to the ”youth”.

        1. Didn’t you explain to me that all animal life is equal?

Atheism is stupid. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you for months! I inspire youth to abandon atheism in favor of a philosophy that makes sense.

(BTW: You are now done arguing. I know you don’t believe me but it’s true. The ‘all animals are equal’ thing is game over.)

          1. Yes, you ”telling”, is what you beleive you are good at.
Newsflash. You aren’t, Branyan. Really, you’re not.

And witness of this is is revealed in your arrogance and ignorance that you choose to splash all over your blog.

Your diatribes are never helpful to your position; they are ill-informed, sarcastic, and oft times simply disgusting.

You rhetoric does more to alienate than it does anything else.
You show a severe lack compassion, empathy and understanding and seem to believe your vitriolic outbursts, supposedly slamming atheism and anything else that does not fall within the gambit of YOUR definition of what it is to be a Christian, somehow makes this all right.

It is probably the reason why at least one Christian wrote that he was distancing himself from the hate you continually spew.

You have issues, Branyan, BIG issues.

Sort yourself out first, before you deign to Chastise the World simply because you are a Fuck-Up.

          2. “Arrogance…ignorance…disgusting…you have issues…you are a F*&^-Up.”

Wow, Ark seems edgy today. I’ve heard that happens sometimes to animals who haven’t had sex in awhile…

          3. You commented to me first, up thread.

The only one trying to treat me like a monkey is you… But, sorry, I don’t wait in the wings for you to summon me and then shut up again.

I call it like I see it: and I see that you’re an irate descendant-of-an-African-Ape.

So–since sex is just a way that mammals let off steam, have at it! 🙂 Take the advice of these wise sages:

  2. On a related topic. (What to do when you’ve not abstained, and a fetus has been conceived.)

This article popped up in my Facebook memories today. I shared it on Jan 29th of last year, and it’s pretty good.

    https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/why-we-should-legalize-murder-for-hire/

“Many women find themselves trapped in unwanted marriages. Matrimony severely curtails a woman’s freedom, and husbands can be unreasonably demanding. A woman in such a situation is vulnerable. She sees only one way out, and so she makes the difficult decision to kill her husband…

While divorce may be an attractive alternative to murder for hire in most cases, some women do not have the emotional and financial resources to go through a divorce. A contested divorce can take more than a year to resolve. After attorneys drain the couple’s finances, the woman will be left with little money to get on with her life. Additionally, a discrete and well-timed hit protects a husband from the pain of discovering that he is no longer wanted….

Murder for hire is an uncomfortable subject, and I personally could never order a hit. The better course is to avoid unwanted marriage in the first place. Yet this is not a decision that anyone else can make for a woman. It is her marriage; only she can decide when it must end.”

  3. John,

Over the course of my two score and eight years, I have heard people lament that they didn’t wait for marriage before having sex.

Yet I have never heard of anyone lamenting that they waited.

I have heard of people hurt over the rejection of someone they had sex with, but nobody who is bummed that they didn’t have sex with someone who later rejected them.

I have yet to see gatherings of people who decided not to get an abortion, sharing their stories of how they should have killed their child instead. But there are many who killed their babies and regretted it later on. Some were never able to bear children later, to their sadness.

Sex seems to have become all about worship, and sadly not in the way the post beautifully put it The unbelievers worship it as the most desired thing in life, as an idol. Just look at the lyrics of the most popular songs in nearly every modern genre. Or the movies Hollywood makes. The novels that are widely read.

If the earth were nuked, and many lived underground, coming out in 2000 years, what would they think of the artifacts they found? They would think that sex was the main religion in 2017, likely.

    Dave

Romans 1:24 (ESV) – Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,

    1. Just a quick correction, Dave. There ARE women who say they should have killed their child… We call them “disgusting.”

“Once the child is here, we are supposed to love and cherish it and do all we can to protect it and give it the best shot at happiness we can. I get that and agree with it. However, I think it is time more people started questioning their choice to have kids retroactively, and talking about their regrets… So here goes. Sometimes I wish I’d had an abortion. My daughter is probably better off than 95 percent of kids in America – as she is breast-fed to the natural age, gets to stay home with me (and her father part of the time) rather than being shuffled off into a daycare center or government indoctrination camp, isn’t physically abused (spanked), has access to the most nutrient-dense food left on the planet, has been sheltered from the medical-industrial complex, is treated like a full grown human being, with equal rights and respect, is loved and adored, etc. Still, I often think I should’ve had an abortion. Or better yet, that I’d known about natural, herbal methods of inducing early miscarriage. I often wish I’d been raised to understand that was a perfectly legitimate and good option…”

      Quote from this article: http://returntonow.net/2016/03/07/512/

There are also a few anonymous discussion boards where parents reveal they don’t love their children and wish they’d never been born. The level of selfishness (and mismanagement of the word “love”) has truly put us in a dark place as a culture. When given the choice between us or them–we choose us.

      1. Mrsmcmommy,

Very disturbing. But I was correct… Until now. Heh. I had never heard of such a person.

In all seriousness, this sounds like a person with a mental illness, or perhaps a post-partum depression never dealt with.

I hope that lady’s kid never reads what she wrote.

        Dave

Psalm 27:10 (ESV) – For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.

  4. Sex education reduces rates of abortions, reduces rates of transmitted diseases, reduces rates of teen pregnancy, yada, yada, yada. These are the facts. Advocating against such education is tantamount in real world effect for increasing the likelihood of unwanted pregnancies, increasing the rates of dangerous and sometimes deadly sexually transmitted diseases, increasing the rates of teen pregnancies, and so on.

You think ‘teaching’ only abstinence is an equivalent education. This is not true. It’s really equivalent to maintaining ignorance about the risks and means of having sex. Abstinence is already included in sex education curriculum so this is yet another in a very long and growing list of false equivalencies you use to support your religious bias. And this bias when acted upon in the public domain by public institutions like the Presidency leads to the increased rates including maternal death in real life. That’s why this kind of advocacy for substituting ignorance in place of education is so dangerous and in need of criticism.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the only woman on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has been quoted as saying that “President Trump’s reinstatement of the Global Gag Rule ignores decades of research, instead favoring ideological politics over women and families. We know that when family planning services and contraceptives are easily accessible, there are fewer unplanned pregnancies, maternal deaths, and abortions. And when women have control over their reproductive health, it improves the long-term health of mothers and children and creates a lasting economic benefit.”

Right. But now we replace facts with ‘alternate facts’ and have them sold using deceptive and distorted means like this post to support really stupid ideas that harm real people in real life in the name of piety. .

    1. Who’s arguing against Sex Ed, Dear Leader?

I’d just ask that you educate FULLY. Preventing STDs and pregnancies doesn’t prevent broken hearts. Sex is of more consequence than what you eat for dinner..

Tell kids the truth: there is no such thing as “safe” sex.

    2. So, you show up….misunderstand the article….accuse the author of making an argument he isn’t making….fail to address any of the questions about worship or baboons from the op-ed…

      …and then disappear?

My, my. It looks like yet another in a very long and growing list of false equivalencies you use to support your religious bias.

My advice: stay gone this time. Very few people read your long tirades, and those who do quickly realize you have nothing to say.

      1. I read the ”piece” three times in succession after reading this ….”misunderstand the article…” in case I misunderstood the article.

I fear I may have also, as the point of many of your father’s articles sometimes come across as obscure to me.
Please can you explain the crux of the article and state where Tildeb has gone off the rails … again, apparently as he seems to be continually missundestanding you dad’s blog articles. .
        Thanks

        1. Tildeb: “You think ‘teaching’ only abstinence is an equivalent education.”

That is NOT what the article is about. His comment is a response to an argument I didn’t make.

          You’re welcome.

          1. Someone taught me that I’m different from other animals because I’m made in the image of God.

            You’re welcome.
            Yet again.

          2. Yes, you are different from other animals…
but this … ”I’m made in the image of God.”
… is simply unsubstantiated nonsense that has contributed to your indoctrination, and perhaps, because of this creationist belief, is one reason why you believe you hold some sort of ‘special position’ among fellow humans?

          3. Not a ‘special position among fellow humans’. A special position among OTHER ANIMALS.

Humans are special. We’re better than the other animals. Only an idiot would argue otherwise.

          4. I a,lways think a lot more than a bit. The reason I ask the question is because you do not appear to.

If you cannot be specific then you are merely espousing dogma without content.

So, again. please explain it properly. Thanks

          5. I cited one example of how humans are better than other animals. That’s very specific.

Forcing me to explain something so patently obvious indicates that you are NOT thinking. You’re just trolling.

If you really believe humans are not superior to other animals, YOU are the one who needs to build a case for your dogma.

          6. Nope. Don’t need to try again. First answer is more than sufficient.

No reasonable person requires proof that humans are superior to other animals.

          7. Correction. No indoctrinated Creationist like you ….
Reasonable is just not an adjective that would feature in any description featuring the name Branyan.

And if you consider superior is simply based on something such the ability to take pictures, you personify the lack of intellect which is such a feature of your overall worldview.

          8. No other animals would realize they just got burned…

(Although, come to think of it, Ark never seems to realize, either. So bad example.)

          9. By all means, keep espousing your dogma that humans are not superior to other animals! You personify the kind of intellect that makes your overall worldview useless.

          10. One of the most noticeable things about animals is that most are far more worthy than you.
A great many display compassion, integrity and degree of intelligence you could only wish for.

And one of the most heartwarming things about the better class of human is that they will outgrow useless pieces of shit like you.

And that is something to look forward to and cherish.

          11. “One of the most noticeable things about animals is that most are far more worthy than you.”

If other animals are more worthy than me, then all animals are not equal. You just refuted your own thesis.

I tried to warn you that you should stop arguing; demonstrating my superior sense of compassion, integrity and intelligence.

            Give up atheism!

          12. You’re welcome.
I’m worthy because I’m made in the image of God.

You know, an intellectual would have seen that response coming.

          13. I’m worthy because I’m made in the image of God.

And that is the most imbecilic response anyone could have have given.
And what makes you think I didn’t expect that response?
You truly are such a Dickhead, Bunyon.

          14. You didn’t expect that response because you can’t follow a conversation even when you’re participating in it.

Humans are superior to other animals. That is this Dickhead’s position and you are at a loss to refute it. So what does that make you?

          15. The refutation is simple.
Your position is largely based on your religion and primarily Creationism.
What else is there to refute?

          16. Your position is largely based on your religion and primarily Naturalism.
            How is that a refutation?

          17. If I can offer a single example of Naturalism being refuted will you have the integrity to renounce it?

          18. If you allow me to provide an example first,as requested and you retract your statement than sure, I’ll let you have a shot.

          19. I’ll save you the trouble.
            Creationism has been refuted.
            Naturalism has been refuted.

Humans are superior to other animals. That is still self-evident.

          20. So when you said Creationism has not been refuted you lied.
This seems par for the course. After all, you are a Christian.
And Naturalism has not been scientifically refuted.
Though feel free to have a go.
After a week like this, I could do with a good laugh.

And, offhand, I can think of numerous animals that are superior to you Burnyan

          21. Cool.
Numerous animals are superior to me. At last, you admit that I’m right.

          22. And as you lied about Creationism, and based on your usual Creationist patter there seems little point in considering you are likely to tell the truth about much else, now is there?

          23. There’s no way in the world I’m going to jump into the same-old, circular rantings of a manic depressive again today.

Go have some sex before you die. It’s what animals do.

            Over and out! 🙂

          24. Animals do lots of things…. are you projecting again, Amanda?

Most of your arguments appear to stem from your manic depressive viewpoint – one where you swapped a worldview you could not cope with to the addiction of Christianity.
The root cause does not appear to have been addressed-only the ”medicine”.

But at least you are no longer contemplating killing yourself, which is a good thing.

          25. Best description of Christianity you’ve ever given! Sincerely!

            Thanks for that… 🙂

And whenever you’re ready to stop using the pill-version of coping, and you want some of MY medicine, you know where to find me. Atheists have known for decades that Naturalism is unlivable. But super-naturalism meets ALL of a human’s needs.

            https://books.google.com/books?id=DT-5AwAAQBAJ&pg=PA91&lpg=PA91&dq=richard+dawkins+naturalism+is+unlivable&source=bl&ots=Jixp6WT4z4&sig=ORfXjkSQFRcuLN1IKoocsUMCG9U&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjZjN6o2erRAhUm1oMKHSx0C2MQ6AEIGjAA#v=onepage&q=richard%20dawkins%20naturalism%20is%20unlivable&f=false

          26. And there you go …. lying once more.
You truly are a very strange and I suspect, disturbed person.

Seriously, what ”pills” do you think I take?
And let’s remember, shall we, that you think David Wood is a shining example of humanity.

The book you linked was edoited on part by William Lane Craig, a proponent of Divine Command Theory.

There is nothing more to add other than to state that anything he has to say on such matters can be dismissed with impunity.
Very much like you and you father, in fact.

          27. Every time I hear the name “David Wood” I’m going to laugh. I love how obsessed you’ve become over him, in trying to make it look like it’s me who is…

          28. Obsessed? Good heavens not at all. I had no clue who this idiot was until you threw his name into the midden of your psychosis, and was at first somewhat baffled by your behaviour on blog posts.
But now I have the perfect example of an individual whom you base so much of your own personal worldview upon.
Someone who you can relate to on a spiritual (gag) and almost intimate level.
Much like a person who might have a particular style of art struggles for the longest time to find another artist who , on the surface, relates in so many ways to themselves, so you have found David Wood, and probably, in you own little way, rejoiced to have discovered a kindred soul.
This is the reason I raise his name, as he makes your worldview – and others of a similar disposition – understandable.
Not right in any normal sense, but at least one can point close to where the insanity began, or found vice, if you will.

I might have a little story for you later – true story, as well. Right up your ally!
Stay tuned , as they say.

          29. Oh, I’ll leave that to you and your ilk, dear. You do it so much better?

Strikes me as more than a little OCD that you would actually go to the trouble of counting!

I’ll bet if you typed William Lane Craig you’d find I have mentioned his name close to a hundred times.

And Yahweh literally hundreds and hundreds.
            Moses and Exodus likewise.
The term Dickhead also used quite frequently, especially when referring to Christians.
I expect you’ll find the word Liverpool
( with regard the football team) as well. Here I may be a bit fanatical.

Oh, my little tale is up if you fancy a read?
            Have fun …

          30. HAHAHAHAHA! There it is again!!!!

Just say, “That guy whose testimony haunts me” from now on…

I’ll know who you’re talking about.

          31. I have no need to worry. Every time you open your daddy’s blog you will have him on your mind.

I just read the guest post from Chris on abortion from 2015 and daddy’s reply.
Seems like you and daddy haven’t grown much at all have you?

Why have you not even bothered to try to come up with a viable solution as Chris suggested?
Based on what I have read doesn’t look like you care much either, do you? I mean, not really care.
And you are still beating the same drum and abortion is still happening.

Or maybe the abortion rate really is dropping because of such sterling, encouraging posts the likes of which we find over here at The Comedy Sojourn?
Ah … the irony of the blog title.

Don’t you think it’s about time you and daddy and other hard-liner fundamentalist pro-lifers had a genuine re-think about your unworkable methodology in this regard?

How about something a little less sarcastic, a little less condemning and a little more positive?

Do you think you have it in you to try?

          32. I just did the ol’ summary for him before departing.

We’ll see if he responds with a least one more “F-word” for me to laugh about before he disappears.

        2. The article wasn’t about “sex-education,” and it CERTAINLY wasn’t about “abstinence-only.”
Tildeb went on and on about birth control and condoms and abortions, as if JB’s kids haven’t been taught about any of those things…

Go ahead and “educate” kids about contraception. Just don’t call it “safe sex.” Because there should be MORE to sex education than just preventing STDs and babies… You secularists should stop telling kids there is such a thing as “safe” sex, because sex is too significant and important to ever be safe.

  5. JB –

It’s very interesting to me that the pro-choice crowd likes to disguise their argument as “reproductive rights.” Their reproductive rights have not been taken away by anyone. In fact – once they do reproduce – we’d prefer they take it to fruition and give birth to the baby that they have produced. And if they’d prefer to not reproduce – then by all means – abstain from sex. No one is taking away that side of reproductive rights either.

If they were honest – they would call it was it is – an argument for their “murdering rights.”

    ~ CQW

And btw – Jeff Goldblum, a mullet, and a baboon. You hit the trifecta with that one.

    1. …and it looks like Goldblum is about to kiss the baboon too! This is undeniable proof that there is a God and He fully endorses me.

  6. People keep using those words; “human rights” and I don’t think they know what those words mean. Perhaps thy should abstain from using those words.

  7. JB!
I remember in High School, I’d go to the doctor to get a physical check-up for Sports.
One time, he asked me a few “health questions” and it went a little like this.

    Doctor: “Have you ever smoked?”
    “No”
Doctor: “Well.. I suggest not smoking”
    Doctor: “Do you drink alcohol”
    “No”
Doctor: “Well I suggest not drinking”
    Doctor: “Are you sexually active?”
    “No”
Doctor: “well if you are any time soon I suggest using a condom”

This conversation at 16 left me amazed. I was shocked that the doctor would suggest abstinence from alcohol and smoking but not sex. Yes Alcohol and Smoking can be harmful to your body, sleeping around can also be harmful to your body and soul. It gave me a taste of what I’d be up against as a waiting, christian young man.

As I think about it.. He abstained from checking from hernias so I guess he believes in abstinence, to a degree..

    1. Excellent analogy. I’m going to start using abstinence all the time when people protest about their basic human right to smoke and drink.

Actually: I have long enjoyed Rush Limbaugh’s analogy that people should be encouraged to make sure and use filters on their cigarettes… for protection.

If you’re not into abstaining and going to smoke anyway, at least be safe about it and use a filter.
