Despite what you’ve heard, racism isn’t a big problem in this country. It used to be. Awhile back, racism was more popular than it is today. Some of mankind’s worst ideas (like Crocs, The Snuggie, and Auto-Tuned music) have inexplicably enjoyed moments of popularity. Racism, like finger spinners, was all the rage for a little while.

But it’s out of vogue now. Nobody thinks it’s cool to own slaves, or use racial slurs, or burn crosses, or discriminate against people because of their ethnicity. Even though the Constitution protects the right to say racist things, nobody wants to speak up for racism.

You can’t find anyone who will offer the slightest sympathy for the cause of racism anymore. I can say any mean-spirited, hate-filled, discriminatory thing I want about racists and there will be no backlash.

“Racists are vile, putrid, despicable people who do not deserve to walk among us. They are worthless life-forms of no value.”

Guaranteed nobody will step up and say, “Hold on, John. That’s too harsh.”

That tells me there aren’t any racists. If there were, their family members would offer some justification. “Hey! You’re talking about someone I love! He’s a racist but he’s a good provider!”

You might say, “John, what about the KKK? They’re open racists!”

I’m glad you brought them up. I can’t remember the last time I heard anyone say, “I really like what The Klan is doing these days.” Wait…yes I can. I’ve NEVER heard anyone say that. The KKK is so unpopular, people don’t even dress up as Klansmen for Halloween. Freddy Krueger is more popular than racists! On the one night of the year that celebrates everything horrifying and evil, the Ku Klux Klan goes unrepresented. You gotta admit, that’s pretty unpopular.

Do you know what’s more popular than racism these days? Accusing people of racism. People love race-baiting more than energy drinks or gigantic sunglasses. A favorite pastime of rich, entitled people is shouting, “Racist!” or “Homophobe!” or “Fascist!” at people they don’t know. There’s good money in pretending to fight racism. And anyone can do it. People of all ethnic backgrounds have made anti-racism their hobby. Different colored people from all walks of life are united in the make believe battle against racism…

So, like I said, racism isn’t a big problem in this country. There aren’t enough practicing racists to influence the culture. Lying and fear-monger, however, are as popular as they’ve always been.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

(Galatians 3:28)
