I hear you say you’re a ‘spiritual’ person but you can’t stand ‘organized religion.’ You’re sick to death of religious people doing religious things and getting all the credit for being righteous. You know religious people are all just hypocrites. You know religion is a scam and you want your personal enlightenment recognized.

As you wish.

Your ‘spirituality’ is a loaf of anger, jealousy, and laziness that you’ve kept in the oven so long it has become a blackened brick. It’s inedible, no matter how much jam or butter you slather over it.

You believe your self-assigned label of ‘spiritual person’ makes it okay for you to hate ‘religious people’ for their hatefulness. You’re opposed to all hypocrisy but your own. Your ‘spirituality’ embraces the indignant, self-righteousness that you despise in ‘religious people.’

Your ‘spirituality’ doesn’t contain any spirits. It is 100% flesh. YOUR flesh. The all-powerful God of ‘organized religion’ holds no sway over you. Your ‘truth’ answers to nobody but you. In your disorganized religion, spirituality and selfishness are the same thing.

Enlightenment requires effort but you don’t care much for hard work. Instead of doing the difficult job of chasing after wisdom, you sat down where you are and declared yourself wise. Your ‘spirituality’ didn’t change you. You changed the meaning of ‘spiritual’ to match yourself. When the ‘organized religious people’ objected, you got angry and left them.

Now you crusade against those evil ‘religious’ folks for suggesting that you’re unworthy of their worship. They didn’t properly appreciate your ‘spirituality’ so you’ve dedicated yourself to their destruction. You tirelessly proclaim that all the bad stuff happens because of ‘religion.’ Your ‘spirituality’ is nothing more than an excuse to say mean things about church people.

There you go! As requested, your ‘spirituality’ is observed and acknowledged. One of the most valuable aspects of ‘organized religion’ is accountability. When you start saying crazy, wicked stuff, the brothers and sisters in the church will shut you down. It’s a tremendous act of love. Try to think about that as you prepare to type angry words in the comment section.

“Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?”

(1 Corinthians 3:1)
